+res2100 Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 With so many policy changes and more areas that are off limits, how about geocaching.com publish a weekly newletter with articles from it's members and also any list of changes to the site or to guideles, etc. This could be sent along with the weekly cache notification, or seperately. I see a lot of interesting things discussed in the forums that would probably effect most people, but most people don't read the forums on a regular basis. Plus if someone has read the guidelines for placing a cache once, odds are they probably won't read it every time they place a cache, so this would be a great way of informing them of any changes. Perhaps also add some kind of "updated" graphic (with date) to any place on the web site that has changed, so that it stands out.
+mlnapoli Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 A monthly newsletter may be more doable. ??
Jeremy Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 I think it's a great idea and we've been considering something like this for a long time, but it comes right down to resources. We don't have any to create a quality product. If there's a journalist/editor type that wants to pick up the baton and run with it, we're definitely open to assistance.
+wray_clan Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Sounds cool. Notification on event caches would be nice.I think it would be cool to see who passes a millenium mark. (in finds) Would it be an e-mail thing, or would it be a little newspaper in your mailbox?

+bitbrain Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 This may sound crazy, but: I nominate Criminal for the Newsletter Editor position. He did a fantastic job on the article that was posted a while back (that I'm too lazy to search for right now).

Thanks just the same though. Here's the link.
+rusty_tlc Posted December 11, 2003 Posted December 11, 2003 Is there anything happening with this? The idea sounds good, what will it take to make it happen? I'm just thinking out loud here; What do you need to have a newsletter? Editor - Will anybody step up to the plate? Contributors - GC staff for update stuff, rank and file for other stuff. Publisher - I think Jeremy said that would be covered. So all that is missing is an editor. What would be required of an editor? Read the articles and decide what is and is not worthy of publication? Maybe they know a little Word so they can use the wizard to paste everything together. Maybe somebody else does that? If there's a journalist/editor type that wants to pick up the baton and run with it, we're definitely open to assistance. Brain storm!!! Well at least a little flatulence. Do they have interns in the Pacific North West? We exploited, err I mean, utilized the heck out of them one place I worked. They work for free or next to it. Editor in chief for the GC.com newsletter would look good on some fresh graduates resume. Is the idea worthy of further effort?
