k2dave
Hi all I have a high amount of spam going to my email address that I have cache reports sent to. I am thinking about discontinuing checking that email address and moving geocaching to another email address BUT I want to make sure that geocaching.com isn't the source of the spam so I want to know how much spam do you get with your geocaching.com regesterd email address? sig line below Did you ever do any trail maintainence? - if so you will know that all but the most worn trails need continuous maintenance to prevent mother nature from reclaiming it. herd paths are quickly reclaimed - k2dave Quote Link to comment
+Salvelinus
You can configure your profile by using "MyPop" and add a no spam function to your e-mail address. That's how I did it. I honestly don't think I ever got any "spam" in any of my three e-mail accounts. Then again, I don't provide my e-mail address frequently and only if there is some way I can request not receiving promotions. +clatmandu
I have never gotten any spam from the geocaching site. Jeremy goes out of his way to prevent any spam from getting to you. Way to go Jeremy!! Quote Link to comment
k2dave
I am glad to hear that. I use my hotmail account and have heard that MS will spam you but since geocaching is the only thing I use this email account for I just want to make sure before I change it to another email account. I just set up a hotmail filter so that if the subject doesn't caontain geocaching it will send the email into the spam folder - if this works I will have hotmail delete all instead of just re-routing it. -------> Did you ever do any trail maintainence? - if so you will know that all but the most worn trails need continuous maintenance to prevent mother nature from reclaiming it. herd paths are quickly reclaimed - k2dave to a troll Quote Link to comment
+Ttepee
k2dave I can tell you from recent experience that this site is clean. I changed my email address about 2 months ago and geocaching mail is still the only thing that I receive there. Quote Link to comment

Moun10Bike
I am also spam-free with regards to Geocaching.com. However, the Hotmail account that I don't use AT ALL (except as the address for my Passport account) is filled with spam on a daily basis. Quote Link to comment
+pizzachef
I have a hotmail account that I set up just to use for things like amazon and ebay...well, i ended up not using it that much at all, but it still fills up with spam...i probably got 10 each day. and I wouldn't check it but about once a week, and i'd have hundreds of spams...and some nasty porn spams too, HONESTLY, i dont know how i got on those lists. i just quit using it..i figure one day they'll cloes my account. so your problem may not be with geocaching, but with hotmail and the microsoft beast. -pizzachef Quote Link to comment

+T-storm
I set up an extra pop-box on my personal web domain to use just for Geocaching. Not a single spam message has come across it. T-storm http://www.cordianet.com/geocaching Quote Link to comment
+Wander Lost
I only get official Geocaching.com email to the address I have set up. You may hate Hotmail, but for keeping spam away from your real email you can't beat it. I just have my junk mail filter set to exclusive and put anyone I want to receive mail from on my safe list. It only takes a minute to skim the junk mail folder see if there is anything I actually want and then empty the folder. Since I started using that account when I have to register on a site my spam to my real email is down to nothing. Quote Link to comment
+Seth!
unless you specify the only e-mail addresses that can send to you. That's pretty limiting for regular use. I only use Hotmail to throw the FBI off my scent. Quote Link to comment
+Web-ling
I just got a spam email that had this disclaimer at the bottom: quote: NTR is respectful with valid law.We have got your email address from web http://www.geocaching.com. I suspect this is spammers that are using a web-bot to scour websites, discussion groups, forums etc. looking for e-mail addresses. If you have posted your e-mail address on this forum, or on a geocache page it is potentially vulnerable. Quote Link to comment
+Rusty & Libby
I always create a new email alias when I have to register on any site. I did the same thing on here and in a year and a half I got exactly one piece of mail I thought might be spam from a competing site. I copied it to Jeremy and he took it very seriously, it turned out to be innocent but I was please with how quick he acted on it. Since then I have started using my personal email address on here with no problems. Rusty...(nospam) Quote Link to comment
Eric O'Connor
Don't give out your *real* email address to anyone but people you know. I use throw away addresses when dealing with machines or companies. If an address starts to receive spam I can delete it without fear of losing contact with friends. FWIW I've never received spam from this site either. Quote Link to comment

+worldtraveler
I used to think my body was in pretty good shape, considering the rough use it's had to endure. But now I have myriads of strangers telling me I need to add inches here , lose inches there , enhance those (I don't even have those ), or flatten that . And the pills they want me to take or the pictures they want me to look at? I'm not even going to go there... “I can't do what 10 people tell me to do, so I guess I'll remain the same” - Otis Redding Worldtraveler "Time's fun when you're having flies." - Kermit the frog Quote Link to comment
