A tidbit for the "Credits" page

I did a little browsing on the original Geocaching website via the Wayback Machine at web.archive.org. From the clues on the Credits page, I was able to locate this URL (Oregon GPS Stashes) which shows the location of the very first GeoCache and the name of the Cacher.

To quote the site:

N 45°17.459' W 122°24.800' - 2000/5/3 - "Original Stash" - near Estacada, OR by Dave Ulmer. This was the first stash in the world!

There's a reason that Mr. Ulmer is not mentioned by name in the credits -- he sort of went off the deep end, threatened to attack any geocachers he met, and in general turned against the game he started. Some of that descent into lunacy can be seen in archived threads in the old forums:

His legacy still lives on in the sport, of course, as well as in Makaio's "Un-Original Stash," which is located at the site of Mr. Ulmer's original stash.
