Dima Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 Can anybody help me on how WGS84 format works? For example: How can I calculate the position when walking x distance under y angle from one point to another? Is there any website which explains this? Thanks, Dima Quote
+DustyJacket Posted March 9, 2003 Posted March 9, 2003 WGS84 is a "datum" not a format. A datum is like a starting point. NAD27 and NAD83 are other Datums. I've been told that NAD84 and WGS84 are extremely close. Enough that any difference does not matter. I think what you are asking is about a coordinate system. Using Latitude/longitude can get tricky because it is not base 10. Using UTM will be more along what you are wanting, as the base unit is a meter. +brad.32 Posted March 10, 2003 Posted March 10, 2003 For short distances, like walking, it doesn't matter what projection you use (UTM, Lambert Conformal Conic, or Integerized Sinusoidal [ugh]), you can calculate relative coordinates using bearing and distance. For longer distances, a projection that is azimuthal is better (represents angles better). Quote
