+Bob&TheGang
Someone please tell me what is the fundamental difference between a National Park, a National Forest and a National Monument? I know you can not hide real caches in National Parks, but can you hind them in National Forest? What about hiding a cache at a National Monument? - Bobkat92 & the 3 Bears "To me, Geocaching is the thrill of the hunt and going to neat places (you might not go otherwise); it's NOT what you actually find in a cache." +Lone Duck
There are caches in National Forests, at least there are in the Wayne here in my state. I wouldn't want to cache around a National Monument though, with the threat of terrorism and all. Someone poking around while carrying a GPS would probably attract attention. +Dave_W6DPS
There are some major differences between two catagories: 1. National Forests ("owned" and operated by the Department of Agriculture) 2. National Parks and Monuments ("owned" and operated by the Department of the Interior, National Park Service) National Forests are generally cache-friendly. The National Park Service is NOT cache friendly, or even tolerant. NO geocaches allowed on "their" lands! Geocaches are allowed in National Forests, other than in wilderness areas, or near specific sites of archeological or historic significance. You are also expected to get specific permission for the cache, and ensure there is no adverse impact on the local ecology (new trails forming, McToy wrappers piling up, etc.). Dave_W6DPS My two cents worth, refunds available on request. (US funds only) Quote Link to comment
