Guest bunkerdave
This thread has been dead for awhile, but I guess it's time for an update. Nothing has happened. I have not received so much as an e-mail from the BLM. Perhaps I will send them one. ------------------ David Wallentine dwallent34@yahoo.com Quote Link to comment

(snip) From the Code of Federal Regulations TITLE 36--PARKS, FORESTS, AND PUBLIC PROPERTY DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE PART 261--PROHIBITIONS--Table of Contents Subpart B--Prohibitions in Areas Designated by Order Sec. 261.57 National Forest wilderness. When provided by an order, the following are prohibited: (a) Entering or being in the area. ( Possessing camping or pack-outfitting equipment, as specified in the order. © Possessing a firearm or firework. (d) Possessing any non-burnable food or beverage containers, including deposit bottles, except for non-burnable containers designed and intended for repeated use. (e) Grazing. (f) Storing equipment, personal property or supplies. Looks to me that if they knew their own regulations they could hit you with the last one: Storing equipment, personal property or supplies. But only IF it has been "Designated by Order". The details on "orders" are in: TITLE 36, PART 261--PROHIBITIONS--Table of Contents Subpart B--Prohibitions in Areas Designated by Order Sec. 261.50 Orders. In a nutshell, the order has to be issued by the Forest Supervisor; be very specific as to where, when and how; and be posted in accordance with Sec. 261.51. Sec. 261.51 Posting is accomplished by: (a) Placing a copy of the order imposing each prohibition in the offices of the Forest Supervisor and District Ranger, or equivalent officer who have jurisdiction over the lands affected by the order, and Displaying each prohibition imposed by an order in such locations and manner asto reasonably bring the prohibition to the attention of the public. Remember: "Any person wishing to use a Forest development road or trail or a portion of the National Forest System, should contact the Forest Supervisor, Director, Administrator, or District Ranger to ascertain the special restrictions which may be applicable thereto." Almost looks like you have to bring your lawyer along if you want to step on USFS property. I took a 1 month car trip through most of the southwest and west in July and I must have passed through hundreds of miles of USFS and BLM land (even camped at large on BLM land). What ever happened to "Land of Many Uses"?? I can understand the NPS having concerns since their job is to protect and preserve the land (go to any NP to see just how restrictive they are) but I always thought that the USFS and BLM was there to USE the land.
