Linnea_Myers
I have always loved tresure hunts, ever since I was little. I would love to get started looking for caches, BUT I am a college student and don't have the funds tospring for a new or good new one. Does anyplace rent them out? (If no-one does, maybe someone should start) Quote Link to comment
Linnea_Myers
Sorry!! I didn't quite understand how to just post a message so I accidently made a poll instead, BUT PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION ANYWAY!!! Quote Link to comment
Eeyore and Shadow
I don't know of any place that does or would rant a GPSr. I don't think it would really be a good idea its not something you can just pick up and go with. You have to learn how to use the specific receiver that you have. It doesn't take long but its longer than someone would want to put into it. As such no one would rent them to someone that woudln't take the time to learn to use them properly. Eeyore It took a GPS to get me away from technology. Quote Link to comment
+Faderaven
I'm sure some kind soul would be glad to meet you in a park near you if you asked nicely. Quote Link to comment
+Mudfrog
You might want to just buy a cheap used one for now. You can get some great prices and most are going to be in good shape. Check out the GPS Garage sale link in the Groundspeak forums here.. Ebay is another good place to look,,, Make sure you get the operators manual if you do decide to buy one. You can of course go caching with others, but most of the time i think you will find that its much more fun when you find a cache yourself. Goodluck!!! Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
Some Geocachers don't use a GPS. I've found a couple of caches myself without one. In both cases I used the topozone map. Also, try www.letterboxing.org. Similar to Geocaching, but no GPSr required. "Life is a daring adventure, or it is nothing" - Helen Keller Quote Link to comment

Lengemen) Sorry this dosen't help you much, thou... ...Beersnob rents the sub-meter ones for work every now and then.... ...now only if he needs one for work this fall, mebbe we could place a few caches with dead-on accuracy! +st_richardson
If you have a Geocaching meeting in your area, go! You'll be able to see and get opinions on all the different models. Ask and someone may let you go with them on a near by find. Quote Link to comment
Cape Cod Cacher
Thinking of Alaska or any cruises.... might be able to be a nice spin to make a $$$ in a lost area. Quote Link to comment
+GoldKey
You could rent a car with a built in GPS navigation system! Otherwise I would doubt the economics of renting these out would work for most businesses. Curious though, as someone wanting to rent a GPS, what would you be willing to pay hourly/daily/weekly? Compare this to spending say $100 for the brand new low end model or less for a used one. Quote Link to comment
kyleebrock
Just watch retailers' websites and the for sale forum here. Use coupon codes from the site below http://www.techbargains.com/coupons.cfm to get your price down. Remember renting anything you'll use often is a rip off. Half.com is always a good place to find used items. Books for college too . I got it so bad that I cache my car keys in the house. Quote Link to comment
