-=(GEO)=- Posted November 11, 2002 Posted November 11, 2002 I am thinking about my next cache, and while tossing a few ideas around, one stuck more than the rest. I have in mind to create a network of caches owned by different people in different locations but forming an "alliance" of some sort where each cache contains one or more fragments of the coordinates to a final cache. In other words, this is a network of "cooperating" caches which would have to be visited to finally get to the ultimate one but beyond the realm of a "regular" multi-cache usually owned by one person. I was thinking that a new kind of "HyperBugs" could be created for the purpose of keeping the coordinates. Something that could not be mistaken for a regular cache item. Those bugs would not move of course (then again maybe they could ;-). On the web site, such Hyper-Caches would be listed w/o coordinates, but would reference the list of the cooperating caches. Cache "alliances" could span counties, states, countries and continents of course. Some could be done in a day, some could take a lifetime to complete. Or cachers in different locations could also perform some cooperative caching "missions" in order to retrieve coordinates faster. What do you think? A cache a day keeps the blues away... Quote
briansnat Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 I've heard of similar stuff. "You can't make a man by standing a sheep on its hind legs, but by standing a flock of sheep in that position, you can make a crowd of men" -Max Beerbohm Quote

worldtraveler Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 I've considered something similar, but my plan is to do it solo rather than rely on collaboration. I'm currently (though slowly) placing caches around the world. Those that survive long enough and have sufficient visits will be the ones I revisit to place the clues in for the final cache. I still have several more to place, and I haven't settled on a location for the final cache; I want it to be really special. I also realize, however, that the liklihood of anyone actually completing all the caches is pretty remote. So I'm not in any hurry. Worldtraveler Quote
Capt. Jack & 1st Mate Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 This is a similar idea and it was a fun series to do: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=32665 Quote
parkrrrr Posted November 12, 2002 Posted November 12, 2002 Not quite the same idea, but close, in that the location of the cache can only be found in someone else's cache: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=41993 Closer to the same idea, but all the same person's caches: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=34133 Quote
lostinjersey Posted November 15, 2002 Posted November 15, 2002 I'd be glad to hook up & join "the alliance". Although personally I've bene thinking the same thing. Wondering how I can work all (or most) of my Weird Nj caches in a manner that rewards those who find them all by revealing a final cache whose coordinates can not be found any other way. sorta a dedication to fans of weird nj (and my weird nj geocaches) www.gpswnj.com Quote
