Geo-caching in the Movies

I can't watch Star Trek (the movies nor the series) any more without thinking that they're geocaching with their tricorders in the woods of another new planet. In Enterprise they actually found something that looked like Tupperware container deep in a cave.

I was watching a SG1 rerun the other day and Daniel Jackson was using a yellow Etrex to detect some kind of energy output (he was inside a building at the time).

Just for the fun of it, I gotta go back and plug This Movie again. I'm way too excited about seeing this and am afraid it's just going to be a big let down. Who knows, though, it could end up being one of those cult classics.

At any rate, there's some real geo-potential to this movie, dontcha think?

Dr. Who, The Key to Time (1978 Season). He and Romana search the Galxy/Time for various pieces of the Key to Time (multi) the use a small hand held device to track down the various pieces (GPS). They even take their dog along!

in "Stand by me" a group of kids go search for a body

in "Resavor Dogs" Mr Pink hids the diamonds afer the heist and later goes to get them.

In one of the Herbie movies a large diamond is hidden in Herbie's gas tank i think it was "Herbie goes to Monte Carlo"

"The Gold Bug" (it stared Anthony Michael Hall as a kid and that big black guy with the deep voice from the 7up commercials) it was made for TV and it's been a long time scence I've seen it but

I do recall an incrypted message that gave directions to a treasure.

Can't forget Monty Python's Quest for the Holy Grail.

Tom Clancy's "Clear and Present Danger" had some cache scenes in it and "The Hunt For Red October" was obviously a chase for one of the grandfathered mobile caches.

Butch and Sundance................... behind the blackboard in the old schoolhouse.

I thought that was Thunderbolt and Lightfoot with Geoff Bridges and Clint Eastwood? Or was it Beau Bridges? I get them mixed up....anyway, one of Lloyd's sons! :o

I think you're right. It's been a while. Still a good cache.

Someone please tell me name of the movie that starred Robert DeNiro and some other cat.....They robbed the French foreign ministry building, and stole a very pricey artifact of some sort....  What was that thing called???  They used gps units at one point in the movie, which was interesting.<BR>

That's not Ronin; it's The Score. I just started watched it the other night with Nurse Dave. It's DeNiro and Edward Norton. And they were robbing a sceptre from a Canadian Customs house (French-speaking people in it).

Nope ... the treasure wasn't buried ... and actually, neither was the rum cache, technically... jack did not have to dig to get at it .

and I would give them both 5/5 special equipment... some form of ship/boat

I like the line about "..and compass that doesnt point north" Sounds like my

I'm afraid half a gopher would just wet my appetite.

One of my favorite scenes of all movies ever.

Coming this Thanksgiving 2004. (Saw the trailer last week)

"National Treasure" link - click here

The whole movie is about clues left by America's founding fathers to our national treasure. The race is on to get to it. One team wants to protect it, the other wants to steal it.

Yeah, I saw that preview. LOL, that's all we need is a bunch of nuts to think the Masons have some sort of hidden treasure.

It's not the movies, but "The Amazing Race" last night had contestants on camels using Gekos to get to a destination.

Man those people are morons!

Beat me to it......I was gonna post that. The last couple of "Survivor" series have had the contestants have to win clues to locate a "cache" of items that would help them survive easier/longer.

I was also thinking of Thunderbolt and Lightfoot but couldn't remember the name of it. That was a great movie. :o

"Men In Black II" was one long puzzle cache, which turned out to be a hidden spaceship that they put Rosario Dawson (second piece of the puzzle) into. Lara Flynn Boyle was giving Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith a lot of trouble for FTF bragging rights, though.

Great thread!

Someone mentioned "Stand By Me" earlier; but didn't mention Vern starting the whole movie looking for the ultimate "Jar-O-Change Cache". He got the DNF because his mom threw out the printout. I'm suprised it even got approved, private property and buried!

Blair Witch: The ultimate case of left the GPSr in the car.

Not a movie, but I seem to remember that in the MTV program Real Life ???? they took all the folks out into the desert and gave them a GPS and they had to find a container with an audio tape???? inside with their instructions.
