Rules ?

Recommended Posts

I was thinking of putting casino chips in caches as trade items (along with something for the kiddies of course!) and I was wondering if this was against the rule about endorsing an establishment? I would only place them in the greater Detroit area, for local ADULT cachers. I'm wondering if this is prudent. Even if an out-of area cacher finds one, it might make a cool souvenior of their visit to Detroit! If the locals use the chips and win big...do I get a cut??? icon_biggrin.gificon_wink.gificon_cool.gificon_eek.gif

Maybe set them up as tb's and they have to get home to their respective casino? I'd use chips from all casino's locally (including the one in Winsor, therefore not endorsing one casino over the next.) Whadda think, good idea or bad??? icon_confused.gif By the way, I have no afilliation with any casino anywhere! Just thought it'd be sorta cool! icon_cool.gif

McDonalds Happy Meal toys, Disney keychains, etc. don't actively endorse McDonalds or Disney, so I wouldn't see an issues with casino chips. They're pretty cool material anyway and people keep them as souvenirs.

As signature items goes, if you're a heavy gambler I guess it would reflect your personality as well, so I don't have any issue with it in that regard.

I find casino chips in caches frequently and I often trade for them. Most of them are from far away casinos and I find them interesting (No, I am not a big gambler). I picked up a couple at a local casino when I was on a trip in the Sierras and I made them into the travel bugs Let it Ride and Let it Ride One More Time. I found this one in a cache and also made it into a travel bug. I have also seen other casino chip travel bugs, so I am not the only one who thinks they are cool.

BTW: Let it Ride was one of my first tarvel bugs and has traveled farther than any of my other Bugs.

I suspect that if my daughter found a casino chip in a cache, she would think it was a neat checker and make some sort of game out of it. I don't see any trouble in putting one in a cache. Now if you take her to the casino to gamble with it, I'd have a problem. icon_biggrin.gif

Gambling is considered by many to be one of the "gray areas" of life.

For most people gambling is rather more looked upon as favoring the "white" side of the gray area, but as a Baptist Minister, it is more toward the "black" for me.

I could have problems if I was seen gambling, but I would consider casino chips a neat find. Especially if from a distant casino.

Just because you possess a gaming chip doesn't make you a gambler.

I've nevr gambeled in my life, well at least not in a casino. Me and some friends from work play poker every Friday, and the chips we use are just the standard poker chips.

If the ones you're talking about are the multi-colored ones with numberes on them from the casinos, then by all means set them off as TB's!

I have a few chips I never bothered to cache in (did I just type cache?) from California. That's a great idea to leave then in caches. Not to mention the wife will be happy I'm getting rid of something that has no real value to me anymore (It would cost more than the chips are worth to travel 800 miles to cash them in!)

I have seen articles in magazines and spots on TV shows where people collect gaming chips/tokens from various casinos, whether they have been there or not. It's just another thing to collect for them, even if they don't do any gambling themselves. I probably have a dollar or two worth of tokens from the last Las Vegas trip. To me they are completely worthless, unless I happen to head back down there sometime in the future. I would have to agree, unless you are specifically placing chips for one certain casino and saying something that sounds like advertising for that casino in the logbook or online log, then there isn't any problem with putting them out in caches.

Although I abhor casinos for various reasons, I wouldn't complain if I found a cache full of their tokens...

As long as I don't have to pay admission to an establishment to do a cache... or, as long as their is a 'free' alternative to doing so... (that includes parking fees... you could always walk; I hear of folks complaining about caches in areas where parking costs $, but I don't see a real issue...)

Cool!! If even a Baptist minister say's it's OK...I won't have to duck lightning bolts for a while! icon_biggrin.gif

I'm not a big gambler. I have never even been to 1 of the 3 Detroit casinos but I have been to Windsor once. I deposited the obituary(sp?) 20 bucks in some of the one armed bandits (couldn't get a seat at a let it ride table) and promptly lost my "cache"! icon_mad.gif

I'll hit the "3" in the next few days and grab a few chips from each. We will hit the Casino Windsor in a few weeks...we've promised to drop off a tb in Canada so I'll kill two bird’s with one stone!

I'll bet that the advertising agencies that McDonalds and Disney hire would argue that these items actively endorse their products (and do a darned good job of it).

Ice Cool, my sonm was asking the other day about the deck of cards with the Casino's name on them that you can get from Casino's or buy at stores. Wonder if people had any problems with them?

Matter of fact I think he bought some at a toy store in the mall.

I like the poker chip thing, I think those would be neat to collect.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with gambling. We gamble every day in other ways. I grew up in a Baptist Church and of course like ChurchCampDave said, it's on the black side. But it always confused me because they would always allow raffles, especially for the youth groups. And then what about churches that have bingo? Bingo is gambling too. hmmm icon_confused.gif

If anyone has chips or tokens from the casinos on Lake Michigan in Indiana, and are not sure what to do with them, send them to me as I am extremely familiar with how they work. I have found that it's A LOT cheaper to just mail a check to the casino every month - You don't have to deal with the crowds or the traffic!

Maps?!? We don't need no stinking maps! We got coordinates!
