eek.gif I have a daughter that lives with my first wife who liked the idea of geocaching. She was dissapointed to find that the Surf Watch program that keeps unfit sites from being viewed on her computer wont let her view the site www.geocaching.com. It didnt seem right to me so I combed the site and found that one of the moderators uses a word in one of his posts that most of those smut filters doesnt like. It was the word "fri>>ing" replace > with g. I also found that the same moderator bragged about using a goverment parking pass over and over and that it was cool that he was ripping off the govt. Im not whining but I try to promote this sport and this site as much as possible. I would be embarrased if I was showing the site to a local park ranger and he found a forum moderators post where he laughs about reusing a parking permit. rolleyes.gif That would result in a big no when it came to placing caches in his park. Lets clean things up and see about fixing any posts with profanity or bragging about lawbreaking. eek.gif

hmm.. I suspect you might be referencing my own message.. if "frigging" is vulgar, then so is "shag"

How the frig do I describe my carpet?

I heard of a High School web site that the school library's filtering program wouldn't let students browse because the filter program prevented access to sites with drug references, like "high". ;-)

Personally, if I found a swear filter banned the whole site because one post had the word |=R|gg|ng (sorry bout that), I would get a new net filter. I dont consider that word to be a swear.

This reminds me of a Dilbert newsletter, in the mailbag section.

"I received an emotional letter of complaint after a strip in which Dilbert used the expression "jeepers cripes." The writer chastised me for using the Lord's name in vain.

I can only pray that the almighty Gosh will not darn me to heck for offending his son, Jeepers."

If you think I made it up, check Dilbert Newsletter 25. Theres an archive on the website.

Personally I hate censorware. None of it works well, you constantly find perfectly appropriate sites that are blocked and many bad sites aren't blocked.

I dont like that censor software either, But the fact remains that some people are offended by such language. I personally dont care what type of language someone chooses to use on this site, its like TV, if you dont like the contents of a certain show just change channels. I love the sport and am trying to do everything in my power to keep all aspects of the sport acceptable to all. I feel that a few cachers dont realize that such a little issue like the slang word in question may have a great impact the sport. Lets say that sometime in the future during some debate with some one from department of lands or from the National Park System Jeremy suggests that someone review the site to see that we all have good intentions and try to leave public lands in better condition than we found them in. So that person tries to go out to the site and finds that slang word and is offended. or his porn filter wont let him acces the site at all. That could be a problem. Its not an issue of free speech or an issue on slang usage. The issue is this. Some are going to be offended and we dont need to use those words, nor do we need to brag about reusing a parking permit. Of course some will be offended by the idea of geocaching itself. At the least I had expected for someone who posted any possible offensive words to edit that post. Not repost the words that may offend others and then gloat about it. I guess some people cant admit being wrong or take constructive criticism. easom

Easom, I agree with you. Some of the younger 20-something guys may not think it's swearing, but let's keep things as clean as possible for all the reasons you mentioned.
