JBAndersen
For historical reasons, I would like to know the specifics of the very first cache. "The Mother Of All Caches", I know was placed somewhere in Oregon in May, 2000. Looking over the Oregon page of caches, it looks like that cache has come upon hard times. Can somebody tell me; the coordinates? date it was cached? cacher? first cachee? date of first find? I remember seeing the first post on the gps user's newsgroup, but did not think to save it. In the list of articles about geocaching there is usually some reference to this first cache, but the information is starting to get pretty diluted. Any of the above information would be helpful. My interest is in a kind of trivia type thing, but accuracy of the information is important. Thanks for any help. jba Quote Link to comment
+Glenn
Looks as if the very first geocache has been deleted. This is the first existing archived geocache and this is the first still active geocache. In case you wanted to know. - Lone Rangers Quote Link to comment
+rdw
You can search Google groups in the newsgroup sci.geo.satellite-nav in early May 2000. Hunt for the word stash. That is what I did and came up with this incredibly nasty URL: http://groups.google.com/groups?hl=en&threadm=1022de72.d4c688d8%40usw-ex0102-084.remarq.com&rnum=5&prev=/groups%3Fq%3Dstash%2Bgroup:sci.geo.satellite-nav%26hl%3Den%26as_drrb%3Db%26as_mind%3D1%26as_minm%3D5%26as_miny%3D2000%26as_maxd%3D10%26as_maxm%3D5%26as_maxy%3D2000%26selm%3D1022de72.d4c688d8%2540usw-ex0102-084.remarq.com%26rnum%3D5 rdw Quote Link to comment
JBAndersen
Thanks RDW! Not only did I find what I was looking for, I've improved my Google skills. Thanks again for the tip. jba Quote Link to comment
+Web-ling
Here is a thread about the contents of the first cache. With comments from the first finder, Mike Teague. Quote Link to comment
