CacheMonkeez
I have a couple caches where I've included some pics. I wrote the HTML code into the description and referred to the pics using the img src = "http..." code. However, my ISP is no longer hosting my images so I've had to remove the links. I tried linking to the images on my geocities page. For some reason, geocaching.com did not honor the links, or geocities denied the referral. Then I uploaded the pics to the cache log using a "log your find" note and tried to use the URL assigned by geocaching.com. That didn't work either. Does anybody else have any ideas where I can host some images to refer to from my 3 cache pages? Quote Link to comment
Lefty Skywalker
Most of the free image-hosting sites I know about are for auctions and have a three-month lifetime for each image you post. (like www.picturestage.com, www.photoisland.com) Sorry I couldn't be more help... You might try shopping for another Isp... What Would Yoda Do? Quote Link to comment
+Ish-n-Isha
You can load them there or for a more streamlined look, on one of your archived cache pages. Cachin's a bit sweeter when you've got an Isha! Quote Link to comment
+Criminal
Almost all ISPs will provide some web site space. I get a whopping 5Megs from centurytel. Ask your ISP, they often have the service but don't make it widely known. http://fp1.centurytel.net/Criminal_Page/ Quote Link to comment
+MountainMudbug
hammack - I have a geocities page and had the same problem, I guess they don't allow remote linking to prevent excessive bandwitdth use. I had to get a free account with Village Photos. They host your images for use on bulletin boards, ebay auctions, etc. A free account can upload 25 images max. ______________________________________________________________________ Remember that happiness is a way of travel, not a destination. - Roy M. CacheMonkeez
Thanks MMB, Neither geocaching.com nor geocities was able to accept links from my cache pages. I'll try village photos if you say it works. quote:Originally posted by MountainMudbug:hammack - I have a geocities page and had the same problem, I guess they don't allow remote linking to prevent excessive bandwitdth use. I odn't understand why GC.com wouldn't display your pics unless you've made a mistake in your link. Here's what you can do: - First, make sure your pictures are less than 100K and upload onto your cache page. - Click on the resulting link. - In your browser bar you should see the URL of the picture. It should look something like http://img.Groundspeak.com/cache/xxxxx_yyy.jpg, where xxxxx is your cache-ID and yyy is the series of your pic which is 100, 200, 300, and so on.. Select the complete URL and then CTRL-C to copy - Go back to your cache page and click EDIT to so you can edit your cache page and CTRL-V to paste the URL into the spot you want for the pic. - Once you have the page like you like it, "delete" the pic reference from your page. It will not actually remove the pic, only the reference link. Letting GC.com host your pictures is really a lot simpler that trying to fool with off-site hosting. The only thing is you're restricted on the size. Just about any pic you are going to use on a page you'll will be able to reduce to under 100k restriction. Hope this helps. CR Quote Link to comment

Free hosting sites like geocities wont display images linked from another website like geocaching.com. The biggest reason is it would allow you to use their bandwidth while bypassing their banner ads which is how they try to pay for the space they give you. Many other ISPs also wont allow it to discourage other sites using images and bandwidth without permission, or to keep porn and spam sites from using cheap, throw away personal accounts to host their images. CacheMonkeez
Not sure how I could have made a mistake. I brought the picture up in the browser and copy/past the URL from the browser address bar into the HTML tag. hmmm... quote:Originally posted by Sissy-n-CR:I odn't understand why GC.com wouldn't display your pics unless you've made a mistake in your link. Well, he actually did mention that geocities didn't work, and I explained why. As for gc.com, I can only assume he made a mistake, bucause as you can see with this cache here, there is no problem using pictures already on gc.com in the cache description. I only saw one cache page with pics when I looked the other day. Must have been a minor glitch as most people's pics are hosted here at GC.com, like mine. Notice there aren't any pic links for the cache page itself, I've deleted the links from the page, but they still show up in the description. CR Quote Link to comment
