The cache most deserving of "The World's Most Dangerous Cache" title. Where is it? Post it here if you have a suggestion, I would like to see what you come up with. What's the toughest one you have ever done?

Stromboli Volcano Postcard Cache

quote:
Heavy terrain, beware of bad weather! You need mountain experience! You will hike about 900m of altitude on an active volcano.

* Have the postcards ready before you go - the spot has some risk of rockfall! Don't spend any unnecessary time there!

* Walking sticks will be helpful to cope with the rough lava and volcanic ash terrain.

* A helmet might make you feel much better. It is mandatory for guided groups to reduce casualtuies in case of volcanic explosions.

* Don't go for the cache if there is a guided group in sight - the montain guides might feel responsible to "rescue" you.

I went and did a really fun by myself while my wife was gone on vacation. I had originally that her that we would wait and go on it together. When I told her, it became the "World's Most Dangerous Cache".

Sorry, couldn't resist sharing that. I haven't come across any in my 3 months of caching yet that would warrant that title.

Wouldn't call it the most dangerous one by far, but it was my most strenuous to date.Leominster State Forest is rated a 3.5 on terrain, but it was a climb. It was in a location where rockclimbers are. I went after it right after a big rainshower. No fun at all. Big time cardio. The owners also have another one, that has a good climb to it, but it's a climb bushwacking and with lots of thorns not to include the bugs. It's called Greg & Andrea's 2nd Cache - Nashua River Greenway and is a 3.5 on terrain as well.

Nope! That would be ''their personal most dangerous cache'' assuming it's more dangerous than the last one beyond their abilities.

To be the ''world's'' would have to apply to the vast majority's abilities.

Don't ya' think?

There's another volcano one somewhere that is actually inside the volcano. The one posted above sounds a little like it, but IIRC, the other one mentioned the cache being within sight of a lake of lava (or magma. Which is it at that point?) and advised special eyewear to even look at it.

Edit: Here it is, it's by the same guy: Erta Ale Volcano. It involves armed Ethiopian rebels as well.

Well the mountain was so beautiful that this guy built a mall and a pizza shack

Oh ... it wouldn't have to apply to everyone's abilities? Your wording isn't any more valid than mine, then. The way you worded it, any specific cache still might not be ''the world's most dangerous'' to a significant minority of people. icon_razz.gif

Would that one be considered a vacation cache? icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry, but I had to ask.
