One site http://www.spaceimaging.com , used to allow one to search by zipcode and view old maps (dated from 1995) in detail with 1km resolution. This used to be free with the intent the user would purchase more up-to-date images. This seems to have changed recently though... so, now the search is on for other comparable websites. What I found useful about this site was viewing state parks (which would not change much if at all from the time the satellite scan was done).
