Moving decimals

When I enter the coordinates of one of my caches into the cache edit page

 

I'll type this.

N 43° 04.318

E 079° 008.000

 

On the cache page it comes out as this.

N 43° 04.318

E 079° 00.800

 

The messed up coordinates place it in niagra falls. No matter what I do it still moves the 8 over one decimal place. Does anyone know what's going on?

You can only have two digits for the minutes in the coordinates (the maximum value for minutes is 59). The submittal form wants the minutes in MM.MMM format, and when it sees the extra zero you have placed in front of the 8, it is pushing the 8 one place to the right.

Tissue and I tried inputing it in the MM.MMM format:

 

E 079° 08.000

 

and it still returns on the cache page as:

 

E 079° 00.800

 

We are still in the Niagara River, and feeling the mist!

Hmmm, I see what you mean -- I just tried to edit your cache page, and it is giving me the wrong results, too. Interesting, because the edit page is definitely showing it as 8 as opposed to 0.8.

 

I'll ping Jeremy on this and see if he can tell what's going on. In the meantime, you may want to change the value to 8.000001 or the like -- that value seems to take all right.

Thanks for the tip, have updated the site with 8.000001, seems to be some type of bug.

 

This work around will keep our Canadian Cachers from going down the river without a paddle!

Ouch. You found a bug! I'm really sorry about that. I think it's been resolved.

 

I forgot to do a check in the code when I padded the coordinates.

Apprectiate your attention to this, however now when you seek a cache in the Ontario Canada area Baden Powell is not listed and when you seek a cache near Baden Powell nothing is listed. Looks like the system does not recognize the coordinates?

The longitude was set to degrees east instead of degrees west -- I edited it and now it's right where it should be!
