+Sissy-n-CR Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Unfortunately, it says you have to have Excel 2000 or higher installed to use it. Well, I guess I miss out as I don't have Excel anything installed. CR Quote

Maybe worth to install Excel 2000 Sorry for not mentioning the link to CacheMaps' homepage. -- there is no spoon -- Quote
+Sissy-n-CR Posted June 13, 2003 Posted June 13, 2003 Curious. Is the reason that you say to install Excel 2000 is to have .NET Framework installed on on your machine? I installed it when I was checking out QuakeMap. CR Quote

The reason you need Excel is that CacheMaps is actually an .xls application, written in VBA. It used the Excel GUI and possiblities of storing data. BigBird -- there is no spoon -- Quote

+Choachy Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Question about the Excel requirements: I have access to Excel 2002 but was wondering: Will the the Excel Viewer software support CacheMaps? Have you tested CacheMaps with Open Office? http://www.openoffice.org/ Open Office supports spreadsheets and reads Excel files. Its also a free download. My time, your time is limited, but time itself is unlimited. Quote
+bazzle Posted June 19, 2003 Posted June 19, 2003 Looks like a great piece of software. Have you thought about writting it in C++ or Java instead of MS Virus Base Architecture (VBA...)? Would be real slick as a platform independent Java app. My mind not only wanders... Sometimes it leaves completely... **Namaste** Quote
+BigBirdNL Posted June 20, 2003 Author Posted June 20, 2003 The Excel viewer will not support CacheMaps (or is it that CacheMaps doesn't support the viewer? ) I tested OpenOffice in a very early stage of development. It does not work. Both due to the fact that CacheMaps is using a lot of VBA coding. I thought about programming it in C++ or Java. But I do not have any experience in these and having the interface and storage possibilities already available in Excel, the choice was made quit fast. And at the point that I started programming I had only in mind to automate the typing of online map url's. It just ended up this way. Sorry if CacheMaps does not support your favorite application platform. BigBird -- there is no spoon -- CacheMaps homepage: http://home.tiscali.nl/bigbird Quote
