Guest echo2000
took this excerpt from Edward Abbey and I thought it was appropriate. For our causes, our lifestyle. For people like ?us? in general. I took the liberty, of course, to edit it to include our little addiction. Forgive me, Ed. ?Do not burn yourself out. Be as I am- a reluctant enthusiast? a part time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. [And to hide stuff in it, around and on it.] While you can. While it is still there. So get out there and hunt and fish [and hide caches], and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains, bag the peaks. Run the rivers, [stash the loot], breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: You will outlive the bastards.? Still waiting for a Vista to drop to around $250. Should I not hold my breath? See everyone on the trails. E2 Quote Link to comment
Guest Robereno
If I might, I?d like to recommend the book Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey. He had some interesting and contradictory views on the forest service and park system. Quote Link to comment
Guest echo2000
Yeah, that's a good one. I first read it when I was taking a class in college but that was, more or less, under duress. =) I'm in the process of re-reading it now. Good stuff. E2 Quote Link to comment
