Guest chris n maria

Hi Folks,

I have just developed an excel spreadsheet that converts between the different formats for Latitiude and Longitude. The idea is that because it does not use macros it should work on Palm & CE machines.

It is completly free to use (and always will be!).

Anyway if you would like a copy mail me:

(Chris@fabalou.com)

release three is now available which features the conversions from and to:

All three Latitude and Longitude formats

UTM(WGS84)

And new for version (3.0) it converts from all the above formats in to UK Grid references.

I would normally (as promised in the FAQs) have sent out the latest version to all my existing users. But this release only added UK National Grid to the functionality so I figured wasn't worth sending out to all my existing users - most of whom are in the US.

I will send everyone the next release when, it is complete. I have planned for it:

Conversion from UK national grid to all formats.

Possibly NAD27 conversions (if I can understand how it is supposed to work!)

If anyone wants any more functionality - Post here and I will see what I can do.

FYI,

I have become aware that at the moment the spreadsheet does not run with Docs To Go v4.0.

It seems to be their bug not mine. I'm currently awaiting a fix from their tech support and will let you know when it is available.

Okey Dokey I will Look at it - there wil propably end a third sheet "Family Size?" which includes the Macros to do this and output a lot of co-ords to EasyGPS.

Don't hold your breath for it - I'm usually out caching rather than coding

Update for current users:

I'm Currently working with some Australian Conservation Rangers to get UTM conversions working correctly for Southern Hemisphere. Northern Hemisphere UTM conversion seems to work OK.

Next release will include Export to Autoroute and DBF. Plus I'm currently working on post-code conversion for UK & US.

I should think they do... The problem with My Spreadsheet seems to be a fix I put in to correct for an extra 1 appearing in front of Northern Hemisphere UTMs - Apart from that the calc is the same. Tesing is taking a while (with timezones etc) but should be fixed RSN.

Okey Dokey,

I Finaly found some time to work on a new version of this - been to busy caching. in the end the only solution to getting more time to work on it was to do it at work icon_eek.gif

This Release features the fix for southern hemisphere problems plus the ability to export to CSV for use with Autoroute.

Existing users - it will be in your mailbox in a few hours (once I get home from wotk!)

Hi Syncro,

I would love to do a version for German grid but I have no idea what the calculations are. Most of the explinations I can find are in German & I don't speak German. If you could find 1 of the following:

1. An Excel Sheet that does the conversion to 1 of my existing formats.

2. Visual Basic Source code that does the conversion.

3. An Explination of the caclulations in English.

I will see if I can Help.

Cheers

Chris

Just announcing the latest version of my Lat/long conversion spreadsheet - it represents

a major leap forward in functionality. Some highlights are:

Enter 1000s of coordinates in up to 5 formats and convert them or export them

in 1 go. Try it for yourself - open the file and press "fill in the blanks"

and watch the magic happen!

Use it to open a Geocaching.com multicache page and watch it strip out all the

coordinates from the text - no more entering multicache information by hand!

Import waypoints from the most popular file formats:

Groundspeak EasyGPS

Microsoft Autoroute (CSV)

Waypoint Plus

QLD P&W

Provides conversions:

from DD MM SS, DD MM.MMM, DD.DDDD, UTM,UK National Grid

to DD MM SS, DD MM.MMM, DD.DDDD, UTM, UK National Grid

Provides links to:

JEEEP.COM

MAPQUEST

StreetMap.Co.Uk

Geocaching.com

Exports to:

Groundspeak EasyGPS

Microsoft Autoroute (CSV)

Waypoint Plus (Routes or Waypoints)

QLD P&W

Memory Map

All in a Significantly reduced file size!

How to get hold of it:

Go to http://www.sheps.clara.net/SSVersions.html and you can download the latest version from there.

The conversion spreadsheet has now been renamed "The Waypoint Workbench" to reflect the huge amount of functionality it provides.

This latest version represents a consolidation of the existing features, a few new features and some bug fixes.

The bugs fix various issues relating to Excel97 and versions of Windows the spreadsheet had not been tested on.

Extra Functionality is:

Import ExpertGPS

Export Mapsource

Distances now available in Statute and Metric

Straight Through Processing" Option which allows conversion directly between file formats.

How to get hold of it:

Go to http://www.sheps.clara.net/SSVersions.html and you can download the latest version from there.
