+Paul Ag
All nongeocaching items, I learned through geocaching. 1. Sunday, I am going out to map canoe routes and put them into quakemap. 2. I will take digital photos of the area and put the coordinates on the images. (I bought the camera for that sole reason). 3. Tommorrow night, I am going to look for iridum flares with my kids. 4. I am learning how to create a website to track person signiture items. 5. I sent a letter to the city of Houston to take down abandon billboards. 6. I just signed up to be a reporter for trial hiking site. 7. I made a shirt to sell on cafepress. You guys are making into a techo/outdoor/activist freak. +walkietalkie
I've now learned I need a good vehicle that will get me over the pass. I was content with my old get-around SW as it was, and now, after discovering geocaching, I'm going fix up my cachin rig. Geeze, if it can't get over the pass, what good is it. ~This is the place~ Quote Link to comment

+Snoogans
Great topic!!! In the process of learning, or have learned, most of the items listed so far and especially your list Paul. #1 for me is that I have begun to appreciate a city, [Houston] through geocaching, that I mostly can't stand. mckee
Don't wear a big furry ape suit while crashing through the woods in the early evening near a suburban park. That was a tough lesson. -------------------- You have the right to defend yourself, even when geocaching! Quote Link to comment

+carleenp
The biggest is that I discovered places I didn't know about. In particular, a long rails to trails bridge in the middle of my state over the Platte river; a National Trails Museum; a neat park in Blair, Nebraska with a Black Elk theme, and; some great Colorado hikes and fishing spots that I would not have otherwise discovered. I also learned about bookcrossing and learned some (but not enough) about orienteering. Edit: Oh yeah, and iridium flares! Quote Link to comment
mortonfox
Learned about poison ivy and ticks. Mostly ticks. Quote Link to comment

+carleenp
quote: Learned about chiggers Yeah, chiggers are no fun! I think on the *nastiness* scale they out rank ticks because they actually liquify your tissue before they eat it. At least ticks just drink blood! Of course, ticks come out worse because of possible diseases. Yet... I have no tick illnesses, but was once made miserable by hundreds of chiggers for weeks! Anyway, I posted a good link for chigger info in this thread . Quote Link to comment
+Webfoot
I learned about: Iridium flares how to better use my digital camera historical importance of benchmarks (yeah, it's geocaching related, but I learned more about it) where to find good topo maps on-line Webfoot Yeah, sure....but did he use a GPSr to find it?
