+-=(GEO)=- Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 I'm in the process of scouting out the area where I live for new cache locations, I one of the possible candidates is this one: Eighteen Mile Creek Here's the description for it: Description Eighteen Mile Creek is 464.0 acre town owned developed park in the Town of Hamburg in Erie County. Some sources cite that this is a popular site for fishing and fossil hunting. According to Erie County Public Use policy, recreational use of this park is currently prohibited. A study is currently underway to develop a passive use policy for this park. In light of the description, should I even think about placing a cache there? Thanks, Fabien. +Desert_Warrior Posted December 9, 2002 Posted December 9, 2002 It is clear that the county says the park is not open for use. But, read it again. If it is really a TOWN OWNED park, the county can take a hike! To be safe, I would first determine who the park belongs to, then ask permission. JMHO, YMMV, BZ, CUL Mike. KD9KC. El Paso, Texas. Citizens of this land may own guns. Not to threaten their neighbors, but to ensure themselves of liberty and freedom. They are not assault weapons anymore... they are HOMELAND DEFENSE WEAPONS! Quote
+Dekaner Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 As always I get up on my soap-box and preach the 'ask permission route'. Email me seperatley at dekaner@kkf2a.com and I'd be happy to work with you on this. I already have a permission packet tailored to the Buffalo area that I used to get permission from the City Parks Department. With their previous support, I think we could make a go at this. - Dekaner of Team KKF2A Quote
+Sissy-n-CR Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 Non-recreational-use park? Sounds almost like an oxymoron. CR Quote
+sbell111 Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 You must at least try to get approval to place a cache here. As a kid, we had a blast at 18 mile creek. Whenever I feel blue, I start breathing again. Quote
+Gossamyrrh Posted December 10, 2002 Posted December 10, 2002 I think the person you need to talk to is the one conducting the study. You may be able to gain an ally as you present your case to the "higher authority". Quote

The feedback that I got from the few who responded to my question was enough to motivate me (special thanks to Dekaner of Team KKF2A) to go ahead and ask for the permission to place a cache at 'Eighteen Mile Creek'. It appears that this park is in a 'grey area' where some activities are tolerated even though this undevelopped park is not officially open to the public. And I believe that GeoCaching can be one of these activities. Hopefully, we'll prevail there A cache a day keeps the blues away... Quote
