What is the difference between N49 50.234 and N5362641, and how can i convert these into each other?

Drive It Like Ya Stole It! Zoom Zooom Zoooom!!!!!!!!!!!

One would appear to be a Geodetic format and the other UTM but unless one also knows the datum (and the zone with regards UTM formats) one can't convert either of those to anything.

Cheers, Kerry.

N5362641 seems to be N48 24.949 (DD MM.MMM wgs 84). and N49 50.234 seems to appear as N5520655 (UTM wgs 84). Thats what I got when I entered it into my meridian, but I don't know if this is what your looking for.

Oo oo oo! I know the answer to the joke. One is a find and the other is the phone number of the girl Jamie met on the way to the cache.

Your second number could be any one of three possiblities:

• 53 deg 62.641 minutes
• or, 53.62641 deg.
• or, 53 deg 62 mins 64.1 sec.

Regardless of coordinate format the two do not have any relationship at all. Distance-wise they would be about 420 kilometers apart.

A good coordinate conversion tool can be found here.

now 62.641 MINUTES is bad enough but 62 MINUTES 64.1 SECONDS now that's worse.

Canadian seconds and minutes are not worth as much as they are in the U.S. It takes 66 seconds to make a minute in Canada, and 66 minutes to make a degree (or an hour). The exchange rate fluctuates a little differently than their currency, but it's the same principle. I think that should clear up any confusion.

Oops!!! dadgum metric sure screws me up. No wonder I always get speeding tickets on the U.S. Interstates.

Haven't you guys heard of the Canadian news program called "This hour has 62 minutes"?

The real mystery is how my mapping software managed to give me a distance between waypoints if one of them is based on a laditude such as that.

No more late night posts for me.
