+Team Tecmage Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Tracy and I get into the truck daily and see the first item we took from our first find- A gold dollar. We've since passed most other items on, but we still have that dollar- it has been with us on every trip since April 2001. What was your first item? Richard Quote

+alchemist2000 Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Oh indeed I do remember. It was a little plastic Fantasia Mickey Mouse figurine. It now sits proudly atop my monitor. Quote
Jeremy Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Strangely enough, nothing. Why? It was a yellow 3x5 card box, with a Sunny Delight drink, camera and logbook in it. That cache hasn't actually ever been logged since I visited it either. Jeremy Quote
+Markwell Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 A flourescent day-glow yellow golf ball and an I (heart) golf keychain. I hate golf. But it was one of the best items in the cache. Left a 50¢ coupon, Mardi Gras beads and a tiny stuffed Mickey Mouse. March 17, 2001 (I had actually already found it on March 13, but didn't tell my wife). Going on my caching anniversary next Wednesday, if the weather holds. Markwell Non omnes vagi perditi sunt Quote

mcb Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Oh yah. I remember my first cache. Boston Run, now archive due to being in a National Parks. I left a musical candy box and some old games on CD and took a spirograph. I still have it. mcb Quote
Team Sidewinder Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Yes like a first love you never forget your first cache and the treasure found there. A set of bungee cords that I still have and use. They were taken from the continental divide cache here in montana. Although the most treasured item taken from a cache is the moun10bike geocoin. sidewinder Lost and Found dept. Quote
+Ttepee Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Kind of embarassing actually. In typical newbie style we took the 3 Where's George bills, I happened to have 3 kids with me at the time and it seemed perfect to keep them all happy....and of course we never logged these bills. In exchange we left a handful of rubber witch type fingertips and some other little Mc-type-toys. It took us 5-10 finds to bring up the quality of our stashables but we've been trying to make up for those since then. Quote

+pater47 Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 It was a little 10 piece puzzle on a keychain - formed an IBM ad. It occupies the top left corner of the curio cabinet with all my caching trinkets. Stamp out and eradicate superfluous redundancy Quote
+Macro Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 I was so happy that I found it that I didnt even care to take anything....the feeling of accomplishment was all I needed. That is still the same for the tougher caches I do today. I find that the hardest ones are typically the ones I take nothing and leave nothing. The memory is typically I want. Quote

Moun10Bike Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Unfortunately, I don't remember! That was back in September of 2000. I know that it was Jeremy's SAVI Stash, but I can't remember what I put in or took out. Jeremy, do you by chance remember what you had in that cache? I know what I put in and took out of my second cache, though: a $1 million bill and a 'Bug's Life' figurine, respectively (thankfully, I put that information in my log, otherwise I doubt that I would remember it, either!). +joedohn Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 A rusty cigarette rolling device which I promptly threw away (don't smoke). I discovered geocaching, bought my Etrex, and found my first 2 caches all in the same day. I remember feeling so pleased with my new hobby that taking something good out of my first cache felt like too much of a good thing. The first thing I found that's still with me is this wonderful handmade papier mache' "Smoky the Bear" complete with ranger hat, bandanna and knapsack. He rides on the dashboard of my bus every time I go caching. Quote
+Seth! Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 A red-pepper candle. Still have it. Never parting with it. It's lame, but it's mine. Quote

+makaio Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 The first cache I ever found was also the world's first geocache (Original). It was plundered, but the bucket was still there full of water - it's only content was the can of Black Eyed Peas. I didn't take them, but I'll always remember them as the first item I found. Quote

GeoStars Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Well, we've only been on one geo-cache so this is a pretty easy question to answer. I took my trade item and made sure all the kids had something to trade but my dear-hubby didn't think this geocaching stuff was terribly exciting. We love to hike though so he went along for the sake of being outdoors. We had 3 families with us with a total of 7 kids and they were all excited to be on a *treasure hunt*. Found the cache fairly easily and everyone was falling over each other looking though the stash. DH (dear hubby) finds a coffee cup that he just *has* to have. But he doesn't have a trade item... Being the great wife that I am, I let him trade my item for the coffee cup. What did I get out of the deal? A husband that is now looking forward to the next geocache hunt. I couldn't have asked for a better trade! Quote

boonie Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 It was the Canal Cache in AZ. My friend Az Baja told me about the site and what is was about. I really didn't like it until I found the cache. I took some Arizona Diamondback baseball cards. I still have them. Maybe someday I will get them signed. Since then this has been a great hobby! Quote
+exConn Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 On my first cache I didn't take anything, but my kids traded for a rain poncho and first aid kit. They still remain in my Camelbak to be used when necessary on future cache hunts... -exConn What is Project Virginia? Quote
+bunkerdave Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Well, I don't still have them, I don't think, but from my first cache I took a military-type pin and several used golf balls. I left a dollar and a stress ball that looked like a globe. I thought that was appropriate for geocaching. bunkerdave Quote
+JoeyBob Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 I didn't take anything from my first cache, it was pretty empty, so I left goodies. The second cache I took a GeoBall- a paper mache globe hand made by a local geocacher(Buddavista). It occupies a place of honor in my office above the computer. My son found another in his first cache, and it rides around in the minivan to remind him of how much fun we have geocaching. JoeyBob Quote
+DenaliNW Posted March 6, 2002 Posted March 6, 2002 Some cheesy New Age cassette tape. My friend and I went out before work, to try this "cool" game I had read about in Newsweek. We both laughed when we saw the tape, and wondered what was on it. I remember leaving a heart shaped wrist watch. Interestingly enough, someone emailed me months later asking about the watch. They had just visited the same cache, for their first time trip, and had taken the watch. They wanted to know if it just needed a battery, or it it was really dead (I didn't know, as it was an unclaimed lost and found item that had sat in a drawer at work for months). Quote
gmaxis Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 How can I forget? It was Cache at First Site! I took a mini-Godzilla/dinosaur pencil top from "The Box" which has since been archived. Quote

+GeoForse Posted March 7, 2002 Posted March 7, 2002 Well, It took me a while to research the question, but the first item I took from a cache was a Vassar lanyard from a cache hidden by tecmnage, the originator of this topic. And in an interesting twist, the gold dollar taken by tecmage was left in a central Iowa cache by myself in my first find ever. Kinda lets you know that there weren't many of us in the game in central Iowa back them. The situation has certainly changed. It's nice to know that while I probably won't log 127 finds for a while, the gold dollar I left in my first find has visited, in a way, all those caches Quote
