I hate Earth Day

<FLAME ON>

Yep, that’s right I hate “Earth Day”. I “cache in – trash out” all the time and my Boy Scouts and I have picked up a lot more garbage than most so called environmentalists, but I still hate “Earth Day”

This is one of those events that makes me angry. It was invented in the 60s while I was in college by a bunch of leftist-socialist (dare I say communist) kooks who used it as just one more way of assaulting a capitalist free society. If you read the drivel that is published you would assume that humanity was a scourge from outer space and that we should all just go out and kill ourselves to “preserve the planet”. They will be pleased to tell you that an owl or a fish should have greater rights than you do.

Follow the money here. What’s really at work here is a bunch of liberal leftist elite who believe that they are smarter, better educated, and know much better than you do how you should live your life AND they should control ALL the resources so they are properly used. (If you think this sounds Marxist, go to the head of the class) Take a good close look at how they have already limited personal rights and are constantly attacking personal property rights via unconstitutional environmental laws.

I will work with anybody who really has the best interest of PEOPLE at heart. These earth day kooks don’t qualify and I will do whatever I can to expose their real game plan and hypocrisy.

My birthday is April 22nd. I will be 55 and I am going to proudly proclaim that I had 3 kids (not two, Oh My GOD how selfish!) and that I am here using and modify my environment.

You should probably try and redirect your energies to converting Earth Day to a concept you can embrace, instead of demonizing the idea because of your negative perception of the idea's creators.

Unless you're saying that planting a tree or picking up trash is counterproductive.

Well, a harsh rant like that will probably cause a few more people to lean towards the left.

Liberals and conservatives are exactly alike ... each camp wants to control what everybody else does.

Like you, I usually make it a habit to "trash out" whenever I'm hiking ... I'm not interested in "getting credit" for being responsible. But a lot of people like these group activities who would not otherwise engage in such behavior. Call it a herd-mentality if you like, but the end result is a lot of good has been accomplished.

Happy Earthday-Birthday.

Sorry, strike my earlier post, I was wrong. He's not a troll.

He's does have a great hypocritical line about objecting to "highly politicized rhetoric that many associated with earth day." That's pretty funny considering he spouted his politial rhetoric all over the place. Maybe other's views are just political rhetoric and his views are just fact?

From what I have learned throught the years, he is correct.

I have a sister-n-law that is very liberal. Asked her if we didn't cut down trees, how were we going to build houses? She really didn't have an answer.

My politics are slightly to the right of Attilla the Hun. I suppose that since I don't have a leftist agenda, I should cancel the Cache-in, Trash-out Event which I've organized for Earth Day. I'm sure that the 40-plus geocachers who are planning to attend would much rather pick up trash on their own than to have fun and a picnic event after an organized morning of cleaning up a park.

Cache-in, Trash-out is "a concept I can embrace," to use Jeremy's words. I keep it in mind on every hike; at the very least, I don't add to the trash problem. Setting aside one day to practice this ethic on a formal basis is a fine idea to me, with no political implications.

WHy do you care about the origins or the rhetoric that some use? You seem to agree with everything about Earth Day except the way some people exploit it. I hate the way Christmas is exploited, but I sure like Christmas.

I'm aware of the roots of Earth Day (I even remember the silly takeoff on the American flag with the peace sign and green stripes they created at the time).

But today, it's become more of a "secular" day. It's a far cry from the demonstrations and "earth marches" of the early 70's and to most people is nothing more than a day to go out and pick up litter.

Of course there is still an element of aging Hippies and teenage Hippie wannabe's out there using it to push their anti-capitalist agenda, but I don't think many people pay them much mind. Most people just want to spend the day picking up beer bottles and discarded tires and don't give a hoot about the reds.

I Used to belong to GreenPeace, and Clean Water Action and several Other Groups. I was also Active in the Boy Scouts of America, and "Project S.O.A.R" in the late 60's early 70's.

I agree that there are far too many LEftist eco-wacko's SO I like to declare myself a "Conservationist" Balancing the Needs of Man with the Needs of Nature.

Given a Chance Nature Recovers...

Take a Look at Pennsylvania today! 100 Years ago those Forests you see today were Gone over 75% of the state. The Noth Central Region had no trees, old photos show entire mountain ranges clear of everything.

Those areas have all recovered, some better than Others, but they recovered...

Everything needs to balance....otherwise you have complete Chaos....Eco-wackos don't like to hear about the killing of Deer or anything else...but how else can you maintain a Balance?

There is nothing like a Packrat who is a geocacher.

I can also relate to HeadMJ. Its not really just an Earth day thing, this is just something that set him off.

Too often people who would never consider taking steps to clean up the environment go out of their way to let everyone know that they are participating in a clean-up. If you don't particiapate, shame on you. Of course no one recognizes those people that trash out at every opportunity.

It reminds me of those that only find religion on the major holidays.

Who cares. One less piece of trash on a trail is one less piece of trash on a trail. Caring about whether someone gets off on their own self righteousness is their problem, not yours.

As for CITO day, it is meant as a way to indicate to the nay sayers that the geocaching community cares just as much about the park systems around the world as other folks. All too often the negative press tends to color the reality of things.

Sheesh people. How did CITO day turn into a political bashing.

There are two things that you pretty much have no need to discuss in a public forum. Religion and Politics.

Person A will have their beliefs and person B will have theirs and you won't change that.

Just take CITO for what it is. A chance for geocaching to get some positive press and let non geocachers learn some of the better qualities of the sport/game.

It would be a shame if new people come to the site and read messages screaming of political agendas to turn them away from the site.

If we meet on the trails there is no need for either of us to know if we are Democrat, Republican, Jewish or Christian. We are just two people enjoying nature.

I've been trashing out way before I started geocaching, so CITO day isn't going to change my already learned habits. However I like the idea and hope it does get good press. In our area, there has been lots of press about geocaching, but not a word of it about the good that geocachers can do.

I may agree with everything you posted. However....the Cache In - Trash Out theme doesn't have anything to do with those that created Earth Day. I'm just a bit younger than you.......but really like the idea of CITO. Since many of us in Geocaching are in the woods anyway....I think its a great common theme. And, it certainly can't hurt our relationship with the land owners. I don't promote "Earth Day", but I do agree and promote CITO.

I usually avoid political posts, but this is just insane.

My personal politics are simple. I dont know what a republican is, i dont know what a democrat is. I never asked anyone, i never cared to find out. I judge people by how they act, not some designation. I dont know what right or left means, and again, i have no interest in finding out.

I went off because somewhere in the write up for CITO it says in honor of Earth Day. I have no problem with CITO. I live it everyday. Just don't associate it with a day owned by folks who want to take my rights to use my property my way away from me. I have a dairy farmer buddy who had a third of his farm essentially condemned with no compensation because some eco-nazi decided it was a wet land. It was used by his family for 100 years. Now he can't.

Everybody should enjoy CITO just don't associate it with the Earth Day trash.

Maybe I have too many personal items with this issue that make me angry but I'm no troll, most of you have seen me around.

You would have a much better chance on getting your point across and people would take you more seriously if you don't resort to using terms like "eco-nazi".

All that does is diminish what credibility you may have in what you post.

When you resort to name calling all that will do is cause more people to not take you as serious and just see you as an extremist.
