Swagger Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 I just found myself typing "cachier's check" in an e-mail - an obvious sign that I have caching on the brain... What other signs/symptoms are people experiencing? -- Random fortune: Quote
+DustyJacket Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 I took my daughter out in a downpour today, just to get a cache that I didn't make it to last week. Now, that's just sick. +CYBret Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 Actually, that could be a sign that you're not caching enough. Much in the same way that the human body often craves foods containing nutrients it needs, your subconscious is pleading with you for another caching trip. I'd get out to the woods as fast as possible if I were you! Bret "The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again." Mt. 13:44 Quote

When you have to pull your flashlight out because it is too dark to see any more, but you still haven't found that cache. When you have to scramble up the side of the gorge rather than taking the hiking trail back because you are quickly running out of daylight, and forgot to bring the flashlight. When you plan your vacation stops around caches you want to hit. When you make every one of your friends and family come out geocaching with you at least once. When you envy retired people because they can go geocaching all the time. When you have ruined more than one pair of shoes wading through mud, slush, snow and water to get to the cache! When you download a cache close to somewhere that you need to go, so that you can use it to navigate towards (in case you get lost). Signs I'm really addicted with this sport: Last year I went after a new cache in the desert, 1/2 mile walk, blazing afternoon sun, 112 degree heat, monsoon humidity, right after I had a root canal, before I got the pain meds from the pharmacy. +pdxmarathonman Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 A friend at work (and fellow geocacher) just bought a house. I could hear people asking her where the new house was but could never quite catch the response. So when we were in the break room together I asked. She started to reply with general directions and suddenly stopped and said **Oh I am talking to you. It's just around the corner from Six in a Row ** So I guess my answer is: When answers are easier by relating to geocache locations. Quote

Syn Posted April 19, 2003 Posted April 19, 2003 I am so guilty of so much of this stuff, making way down a trail in the dark, ruining multiple shoes and pants, and shirts, and countless socks---hey its not that I am wearing inapropriate footwear, its just that I didnt plan on a new cache being put right up on one of my homepages....I just had to get them. When I was still with my ex, she went to go grocery shopping. I was down with the flu and couldnt even think straight, she was sick also and throwing up. I got a email from matt and laura about one of their Springwater trail caches. It was only .6 miles from my house. SO I figure, Mom will be gone for at least an hour...she left 15 minutes ago...I can get there and back well before then. I bribe my daughter to not tell her, everything is set..we find the cache, I can barely stand up as it is...took about ten minutes of searching...carrying her the whole way and she was bundled up with about 20 pounds of clothes and jackets and hats, and gloves. It was already dark..I was out there with a flashlight. We get back and beat mom back..woohooo. I gave my daughter 5 bucks and promised to take her to chuck e. cheese that weekend for not telling. As soon as mom walks in the door....she spilled the beans and had to show the new toy she got. Man was I so busted. Even more so than the time I taught her to say "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the peoples republic of china", instead of "America." Something about getting a call at work from the teacher at school didnt sit to well with mom. But along the same lines..I got in less trouble than when I had the day off, I woke up at about 8 am to go do some caching. Well mom was running late that morning and left a huge and I mean HUGE note taped to the TV..figuring that I almost religiously watch the morning news everyday. Well I woke up late and had allot of caching to do...I didnt even see the note that said to take my daughter to school. All I was thinking about was hitting 7-11 and getting some coffee so I could start the day. Well anyway....I go caching, ran some errands, did some more caching, and got home at around 4. Here comes my daughter running around the corner. SHe spent the whole day with my dog just hanging out, eating pop-tarts and cereal, drinking gatorade and watching cartoons. Woh did I get both ends of the barell on that one. Quote

+smithdw Posted April 25, 2003 Posted April 25, 2003 I had the flu a few weeks ago. Thought I felt better on Sunday after missing work on Thu-Fri. I decided to go and see if I could find a few caches to the east of town. Drove about 50 miles to the furthest one after getting a couple along the way. This one was up in the mountains a little ways. I had to drive through snow about 16" deep to get to the cache area. The cache was off to the side of the road about 50'. The snow was 2' deep in most of the area with 3' deep places. I dug around for about 45-50 minutes while it was snowing. I didn't find the cache either. After I got home, the next day I was really sick and headed to the doctor. I did find three caches on that trip though. A previous post gives me an idea. I have several hundred new prescription bottles of various sizes that our pharmacy at work was going to throw out because they were contaminated with a little dust from remodeling a wall.
