Guest slick8086
I prefer the UTM (Universal Tranverse Mercator) system. I learned to read maps and navigate when I was in the military and the UTM system is very very similar to the MGRS (Military Grid Reference System). For navigating on foot or in a car, I think it is the simplest to use. The GPS I used in the military didn't have graphics or arrows, you just had to watch how the numbers changes to see if you were going in the right direction. It didn't take long for most people to get the hang of it. UTM is pretty much the same. I also use TOPO! software to print out topographical maps and it has a feature that allows you to superimpose a user definable grid over any map you print. What coordinate system to you prefer. What are it's benifits? Also, what coordinate systems do dislike. Quote Link to comment

Guest quade
For general navigation purposes, lat/long. I guess this comes from my being a flight instructor. Paul [This message has been edited by quade (edited 23 August 2001).] Quote Link to comment
