+Corp Of Discovery
Perhaps if it was done without seemingly non-valid reasons being given and the post by an admin, it would have been easier for people to accept it being done. We too deserve to be treated with respect as fellow cachers and customers of this site, do we deserve any less? It would have been vastly better to just say that links to that site were not allowed, it would have been closer to the truth and that can't be a bad thing. Can it? Remember, wherever you go- there you are! Quote Link to comment
+Planet
In the words of the late Ricky Ricardo Ay yi yi yi yi! Delay of game! It's a game!!! The games of Tag, Dodge Ball, and Ping Pong were not invented all in a day. Some things need to be ironed out over time, given a chance to see if they work or not and make adjustments. This game is still a baby and this site will grow, and continue to be managed by some great people. If you don't like it, adjust or there's the door. Good luck to you. But can we stop with the arguing? (The first person who posts back that Ricky's real name is Desi Arnaz gets a piece of coal for Christmas!) Planet Quote Link to comment

Swagger
quote:Originally posted by Keystone Approver:Cruzin, consider changing your signature tagline The truth is an absolute defense. The American Heritage Dictionary defines overbearing as "Domineering in manner; arrogant". The removal of all images because of one website being linked to fits that definition to a tee. quote:the admins might respect what you have to say. Respect it or don't - I really don't care. What mtn-man was doing was perpetuating the problem, plain and simple. If TPTB don't want to see that type of activity in the forums, they should refrain from doing it themselves. I don't think you'll find anyone that disagrees with that, so maybe you can respect a consenting cacher's opinion instead of mine. quote:You're a geocacher. Start acting like one and show some respect for fellow geocachers. As geocachers, I do respect the admins. As admins, they often do things that I disagree with. My comment wasn't disrespectful. I was pointing out that mtn-man was behaving inappropriately much the same way that the admins point it out when one of us peasants is doing it. Look, I know that the admins do a lot and get little in return. There's a reason I never volunteered for the job... They take a lot of heat, but that's part of the job. The forum admins are the "public face of geocaching.com" to the cachers in the forums and as such are the representatives of the Groundspeak, Inc. when posting. When an admin goes off like mtn-man did, it says a lot more about the site and it's operators than a hundred threads of customer complaints. If TPTB want to be treated like professionals and have their actions and decisions respected, they need to act like it. -- Pehmva! +sledgehampster
My response is that this site is like cable porn. If you don't agree with it or don't want to see it TURN IT OFF!!! But seriously, I was going to change it last night before I read KA's message. While KA was civil in their response, it still bothered me that the point of my post was ignored and instead, I was insulted. That bought them another day of my .sig. The thread has quieted down, but my disgust with why the images were removed remains steadfast. The admins continue to do things that the majority of cachers who voice their opinions disagree with. Like virtuals, locationless, stats, etc., something that the customers want is being ignored. I expect this trend to continue until a serious competitor arrives on the scene. +team safari
Hey Jeremy & Co Admin. As just a innocent Geocacher who really enjoyed the game until all these controversies and bureaucratic control issues started, I am frankly turned off by your latest interventions. What gives you the right to "moderate" geocaching discussions? This is a community of geocachers communicating, not your personal dictatorships as to who can can say what. <table bgcolor="white" align="center" style="font-size:8pt;color:black;"> <tr> <td align="center"> <b>This cache was placed by a <a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NM_Geo/" target="_blank" style="font-size:8pt;color:black;">New Mexico Geocacher</a>.</b><br><a href="http://groups.yahoo.com/group/NM_Geo/" target="_blank"><img src="http://www.9key.com/images/nm_button.gif" border="0" alt="New Mexico Geocacher" vspace="3"></a> </td> </tr> </table> Quote Link to comment

GeoWorms
quote:What gives you the right to "moderate" geocaching discussions I, for one, approve of the moderation. I don't agree with all the decisions, and I would like to see a little more "We're listening and we have a plan, but this and that are more pressing..." But without moderation you end up with a mish-mash of threads that wander all over and have nothing to do with the original post...um...kind of like...ah...this post. Sorry--will get back on topic. GeoWorms
In terms of the original topic that the img tags are no longer allowed, I agree. They are simply a distraction to reading the posts. I have no stance about the whole stats issue which seems to have dominated this thread. If the stats themselves are your thing you can still include them as text. Completely eliminating the images without first trying a compromise on the size and annoyance factor was a bit harsh, but it's not the end of the world. I think the "bandwidth/page loading times" argument was a red herring. Bottom line, I don't miss them, but it could have been handled better with some more open communication. Quote Link to comment
