Trash bags and film cannisters

Recommended Posts

I've acquired a good bit of film cannisters. I'm thinking of taking the cannisters and placing trashbags in them and then putting the cannister in caches I find. I'm thinking of putting a label of some sort on the outside of the cannister. Has anyone made labels for this type of thing and if so what did it look like? Also what size and/or kind of trash bags did you put in them? I know that only a few will only fit, but it's worth a try.

I usually go to a cache with a plastic shopping bag that you get at grocery stores. On my way out, I pick up trash along the way. I once picked up on the way to the cache that was a multi, and by time I got to the second cache I was haulin around a full bag. Which is why I now pick up on my way out, so I don't have to lug the trash around.

I bought a GPS. Now I get lost with style.

We have been placing some micro "kits" in caches. It's really just a 35mm film canister that's been camoflagued, but we also put a log book, pencil, and small pencil sharpener inside. (We're hoping that this will inspire more people to place caches in our area.)

Anywho, this thread has made me think about putting a trash bag or two in there as well. Finder could use the trash bags for some CITO on the way out, then use the micro kit to hide their own cache.

Gues I got to say thanks too for your question.

We always bring trash bags with us however it just occured to me that leaving empty/new ones at caches I find is a way to introduce Cache in/Trash out to new GCer's.

Here's what I've been doing, as an example. Many State parks have large, colorful, pre-folded trash bags at their visitor centers. I acquired a pile of them just for the asking (these happened to come from High Point S.P. in New Jersey), and I seal them in 3½x5 plastic bags while pressing the air out between two pieces of stiff cardboard. This makes them extremely flat so that they take up very little space in a cache. I generally leave a couple along with my usual assortment of sealed State Park maps at many of the caches I visit.
