This may be a little off subject here. Not sure if this would be concidered coolest or most unusual. I saw a roll of toilet paper in a cache once. I guess that would be better than using a poison ivy leaf.

I was pretty excited when I found one of the checkerboard keychains that are spitwinkle's signature item. But I've got to say my favorite item so far was the Friskefrosk Langelår TB, who has been to three continents. Too bad I couldn't move him farther than I did.

not cool, but odd.

I found a paper sack full of rosary beads about 50 feet from a cache. Not along a trail or road, just out in the middle of nowhere.

I still ponder about that.

Another odd thing was the small jar with the cremains of a dog, and a note to take the cremains to the next cache, sorta like a travel bug. I passed on complying with the request.

While looking for "Corridor II: The path of Least Resistance", waypoint GCA4AC, I found a romantic greeting card with a love note in the card. The card was in a baggie and placed in the hollow of an old tree. THIS WAS NOT THE CACHE, IT WAS JUST IN THE SAME GENERAL LOCATION. The card and baggie appeared to be quite old. I got the feeling that it was a drop spot for two lovers who probably had other commitments and could not always meet face to face. Perhaps it was the last love letter before a sorrowful but necessary breakup.

We got an old MAD magazine out of a cache once. It is in excellent condition. That was pretty cool find!

Kewlest thing I've ever found was a working Radar Detector. (I'm still using it as a matter of fact). I also found a real bear claw in the mud on the way to a cache. Does that count?

I found a completely intact turtle shell that measured over 14 in. across near my 5th find. I think it was a red eared slider. The Texas fire ants had almost completely cleaned it out. It didn't even have any smell to it. Looks pretty neat on the wall of my garage with a coat of varnish on it.

The coolest thing that I got from a cache was a walking stick from Bosun's Cane Cache, in Houston.(Notice my from line) One of only 3 items that I have kept. It stays in my car and I use it for a poker on grab-n-go caches.

I once found a digital camera in a cache. It was an older model (and it really was left as a trading item) and it was still in working order. I traded virtually everything in my pack for it.

I found a dose of Viagra in a cache once. I;m never sure what motivates some people.

Not sure if it's the coolest, but it was one of the weirdest. It was the ball portion of a titanium hip implant. I turned it into a travel bug.

I found a handmade wooden cross necklace in a cache once. I don't know if it was made just to place in the cache or if someone just left it, but I was glad to find it just the same. I have found more expensive items in caches, but nothing is as valuable as something made by hand. The cross hangs by my desk and I would never trade it.

Easy! An American flag. Not JUST an American flag, but one from the Enduring Freedom geocache. This flag flew on 9 combat missions over Afghanistan with the 366th Air Expeditionary Wing during Operation Enduring Freedom.

It was a geocoin # 20 that came from moun10bike. It was one of my first finds and moun10bike allowed me to keep it rather than pass it on. Doubt there will ever be a item that I find in a cache that will take its place as it came from a geocacher that I highly respect.

Hand drawn, color, framed pictures by Honeychile. Each was an original and each depicted an outdoor setting with a cache bucket somewhere in the picture.

I had a difficult time deciding which I liked best. She had just restocked the cache and there were about a dozen to choose from. I finally selected one of a barn with a cache bucket under a tree in the foreground, not too different from the one on the cache page.

It is proudly displayed in my home now.

Anyway... coolest thing I've ever found? A headlamp, fully functional, brand new. Left it in there because I didn't have anything worthy enough to trade for it.

The coolest thing i've found in a cache was a log book. If it is possible to read the log book in the area of the cache I will sit down and read through all the entries. I really enjoy seeing what others had to say while at the cache site.

The coolest trade item I have found is a 2 inch long plastic ammo can replica, with a little logbook and little pencil inside (in a little ziplock bag), and a little geocache sticker on the outside. It was in a cache that I found by accident, (and was the first finder), while looking for a waypoint of another cache. I think it's a UWdawg signature item, but it's the only one I've seen.

Found some really cool stuff: A Rat Race DVD, a water-squirting prank calculator (which though it looked entirely fake still fooled almost everyone in my company), a $10 bill placed in the logbook by a 1st time cacher (we used it to take our team to Amy's Ice Cream), and a bootleg recording of a Buddy Guy concert. Not all in the same cache, or even the same year. This is just the highlights.

Without doubt it is the caches themselves!

I am far more fond of the rural caches, caches that offer a view, country.

To sit with 'found' caches in hand and enjoy the surroundings is my greatest reward. And, obviously, each to their own...some people will prefer one thing and others another.

This isn't to say I don't find some of that in metropolitan settings....other factors come in to play.

A brilliantly placed cache in the city can be extremely rewarding. I am not particularly fond of caches that place me in full public view...but that is just me.

My 3rd or 4th find, (I'm a beginner and have found only about 50 or so), took place in a canyon far from the beaten path...and I'm talking FAR. I took a big part of my family with me for that one because they were curious as to what I was up too with this newfound hobby.

Included were my Dad....he'll be 80 this year, and my grandson who just turned 4. After the find we all sat on a rock outcropping, (which involved a considerble climb for them), and took in the view while we explored the contents of the cache. That moment was special....and nothing I EVER find *inside* the cache will compare. - JamesJM

Team Signature items.. we often open a cache and the first thing we ask is "any signature items in there?" Many of the teams around here have come up with their own cards and signature items...and it's gotten pretty popular to chase each other around trying to get some of these.

i found an entire deer skeleton when i screwed up a waypoint and ended up finding it almost at the exact incorrect corrdinate for the cache, its a really nice 8pt but the picture isnt that good, it made for a great caching souvenir

I haven't really found anything all that glamorous, but I did find a brand new fishing lure (still in the package) and I gave that to my Dad...not the "coolest" item I don't suppose, but useful. So far I haven't run into any caches with anything really exciting in them, but I enjoy the hunt regardless of the items anyway...so it's all good!

My wife was with me and on the hike to the cache she made the comment that we need to find a gas station to buy some Kleenex on the way to the next cache.

I told her if we are lucky maybe something in the cache.

Wow--was a small box of Kleenex in the cache!!

Talk about timing!!!!

Ok guys maybe you can clear up an arguement around the house here.

Today while on a cache alone I found a small ski pole. Now I would call it a "treking pole" but because it is emblazoned with the Scott logo, it must be a childs ski pole. Anyway, I noted it and went on, thinking that if it were still there when I returned it was mine. It was, so I packed it out thinking that my daughter could use it as a hiking stick.

Now comes the battle....My hubby thinks that it's unsafe as a hiking stick because it has a metal tip. He says that it will be unsafe to use it for stability. I say relax, it's just a pole and won't cause an accident, it's just a stick!

Maybe I should have started another useless thread, (I hope I'm not woefully off-topic)

Or maybe this isn't worth commenting on?
