Syn Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 I received several emails from people saying they were going to plunder my cache's that I have hidden. I will be yanking all of them with the exception of maybe three starting today. If your going to visit them then get it in now because they will be archived by this weekend.
Syn Posted June 12, 2002 Author Posted June 12, 2002 Not my throw away account..my account used for here. I am pretty pissed off right now and cant think quite straight.
+phantom4099 Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 you could always wait out there and catch the little bugger (if they really mean to do it). Wyatt W. The probability of someone watching you is directly proportional to the stupidity of your actions.
+Rye_and_Leigh Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 What the heck is going on? Why do you think these people are out to get your caches in particular? Who are they?
DisQuoi Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 Wow. Please post the email. What makes you think it was Geogamers? Did they say that? Were you the sole recipient? Are you sure you want to do that? What if we all did that? I think you're doing what they want you to do.
+Team Hoijong Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 I wonder from what domain the emails come from.. Did anyone els get a email like this?? Irresisti N12º 55.475 E100º 52.865
+GeoCrickets Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 Syn Aka Waynepdx I see you gave into them. I think you should have left them out to see wat happens. Richard
+joedohn Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 Boy, I sure hate this kind of stuff. Sorry you got targeted Wayne. It would be good to know who's doing this but I can't blame you for wanting to distance yourself from this immediately. Your probably saving yourself some long term headaches.
+Capt. Jack & 1st Mate Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 Post their e mail addresses and we'll (talk) to them!

Syn Posted June 12, 2002 Author Posted June 12, 2002 I do not believe that the admins from geogamer had anything to do with this. I sent them an email using directly from my work email and had a response within an hour from them. I have checked their site and the 5 caches that were posted are no longer listed. I made the mistake by giving the user name and password to the account I created in a forum post in the Original Geogamer thread on here. From there I believe someone used that account and cross posted 5 of my caches on there. The ones that I remember posted were "The Rock", "Kane Clone", "Well", "By The Creek", and I believe "Starvin Marvin #1". I have learned my lesson from that. Now I recieved two emails (which I stupidly deleted) stating that they didnt like how I was flaming geogamer, with other statements of "You are a blackeye to geocaching" and that "all of your caches are going to be plundered". These emails were sent directly to me and not through geocaching.com as they didnt have the usual headers and identity to them. I did try to reply to the email and the reply user was "Anonymous", and the email was bounced back to me as undeliverable. I spoke with another geocacher at my work who is our network expert, and he said that it is entirely possible to send anonymous emails, you can even buy software that will be its own email server and strip all of the information of the identity of the sender. I have not received another email from this person. In the meantime the majority of my caches are "Temporarily Archived" and will remain that way until I figure out what is going on. I remember at Champoeg that someone spoke of I think Joe Don being targeted by someone before for no reason at all and that they were just going around and plundering the caches. I just dont want this to happen to me. I am leaning towards leaving all of my existing caches up and any new ones being under a different name to protect myself in the future.
Syn Posted June 12, 2002 Author Posted June 12, 2002 After receiving some emails from other geocachers, I think it is my best interest to have Jeremy close this thread.
skydiver Posted June 12, 2002 Posted June 12, 2002 My guess is that if they were really going to plunder your caches, they would just do it, but since it takes so much effort to get up off the couch, they're sending threatening email instead. They're whole purpose in this is just to get a rise out of you. I'd just relax and forget about it if I were you. --- Two paths diverged in a wood, and my... my GPSr pointed dead center between them. ---
