I've put together an album of songs about Geocaching (ok, maybe they're about other things, but you can interpret these things...). I'm going to start leaving this in local (central Mass) caches.

Has anyone already done / seen something like this? Please give me song suggestions for future albums ...

Dave Matthews Band -- Satellite

REM -- Find the River

Nick Drake -- Road

Blind Faith -- Can't Find My Way Home

Radiohead -- Everything in its Right Place

Bjork -- Hidden Place

Nelly Furtado -- Trynna Find My Way

Cake -- The Distance

B-52's -- Roam

Duran Duran -- View to a Kill

Heather Nova -- Walk this World

Tom Petty -- Running Down a Dream

Sarah McLachlan -- Building a Mystery

U2 -- Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

Yes -- Long Distance Runaround

Beatles -- Day Tripper

The Calling -- Wherever you Will Go

Red Hot Chili Peppers -- Under the Bridge

Tag Team -- Whoop! There it is

Chad & Brad (Team Exocet) did something like this last spring. They burned CD's with similar (possibly some of the same) songs and placed them in caches as a Geocaching Mix. Unsure how many they did, but I've got one in my possession which contains the following songs...

Patch the Pirate - The Treasure Hunt Begins

Cool and the Gang - North, East, South, West

Dave Matthews Band - Satellite (Live at Luther)

Lou Reed, The Velvet Underground - Satellite of Love

Bjork - Hunter

Elliot Smith - Satellite

Shasta & Digweed, 0 Degrees North - Satellite Serenade

Anamaniacs - The Geography Song

Joshua Redman - Hide and Seek

U2 - I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For

Family (Roger Chapman) - Holding the Compass

Building42 - CBC Radio Story, DNTO opera.cbc.ca (4/15/01)

Sister Hazel - We'll Find It

Strunz and Farah - Confluence

Aesop Rocks - Coordinates

Sherlock Hemlock - X Marks the Spot

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - X Marks the Spot

Alana Davis - Can't Find My Way Home

MeatPuppets - Commin' Down From the Mountain

I'm pretty sure that Markwell also did this, and placed CDs in area caches. A couple were donated by him to our SouthEast Wisconsin Geocache picnic last August as raffle prizes.

My wife and I tried so hard to snag a copy at the picnic, but the raffle tickets did not comply. Bummer...

All of you that created music-to-cache-by CDs have a great idea.

When I'm out alone on a geoquest in a quiet place, the three songs that play repeatedly in my internal jukebox are THE SEEKER by the Who (They call me the seeker, I've been searching low and high, I won't get to get what I'm after, Till the day I die) and HOW by Lennon from the Imagine album (How can I go forward when I don't know which way I'm facing? How can I go forward when I don't know which way to turn? How can I go forward into something I'm not sure of? Oh no, oh no) and U2's I STILL HAVEN'T FOUND WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR.

Hey, there is only ONE GeoCaching song. And, yes, you'll kick yourself that you didn't think of it:

Stand - R.E.M.

{Refrain}

Stand in the place where you live, now face north

Think about direction, wonder why you haven't before

Now stand in the place where you work, now face west

Think about the place where you live

Wonder why you haven't before

If you are confused check with the sun

Carry a compass to help you along

Your feet are going to be on the ground

Your head is there to move you around, so

{Refrain}

Your feet are going to be on the ground

Your head is there to move you around

If wishes were trees the trees would be falling

Listen to reason, the season is calling

{Refrain}

If wishes were trees the trees would be falling

Listen to reason, the reason is calling

Your feet are going to be on the ground

Your head is there to move you around, so

Stand, stand, now face north

Think about direction, wonder why you haven't before

Now stand, stand, now face west

Think about the place where you live

Wonder why you haven't

{Refrain}

Stand in the place where you are

Stand in the place where you are

Now face west

Stand in the place where you are

Your feet are going to be on the ground

Now face north

Stand in the place where you are

Your head is there to move you around, so

Now face

So stand

Let's see...

My wife's grandmother lives in Adrian MI and she grew up in Southfield...

And now my wife's mother lives in Chattanooga and we regularly take I-57 through Illinois...

I might be able to work out getting some of the CDs into your areas. Around Mattoon - keep an eye on the Fox Ridge Stash. It is my Everest.

I was in Oregon this past summer, and saw one (In the Urban Wilderness cache) that CJWheeler had put together using Country music. I didn't grab it, so I can't tell you what songs were on it. But I can tell you that it has been done.

Now that's a good question. The answer is; I don't know. Don't have anything to play them in anymore. Haven't even seen them in awhile, packed away somewhere.

This thread really got my mind going! Ok, if you know me, you know that doesn't mean much!

I think it's great to have a caching CD to play on the way out or the way back.

Anyway, I've made up a couple to leave in found caches. My email is on the CD. If you find it, let me know.

I'm looking for more music that would fit, at least in my 'mind'!

How about "Sleeping Satellite" by Tasmin Archer? (OK, I know it's realy about the moon) icon_wink.gif

Then there was one by Nick Haywood that went something like "Near a stream, by a tree.." and went on about going "around and around". Which would seem apt? icon_biggrin.gif

I'll put the words in a SE and see what comes out.

Hey - anyone got a copy of my CD? I lost the hard drive that it was on and I need to reconstruct it. It sure would be easier just to make copies from an existing one.

E-Mail me at MarkLent60544@aol.com - but I'll start reconstruction work anyway.

I have a travel bug out there called Bug Mix that's kinda trying to get the perfect mix. It started out as a blank tape, and i'm asking those who find it to add a song. Just an experiment.

Billy Joel-- River of Dreams

Dedicated to all the night time cachers in the Northwest!-- hehe-- yes, I am thinkging of OREGONE, TRAFCON, and a few others..... you know who you are. Not me..... I only went on one night time cache.....my first cache ever and coincidentally (?) the cache was disbanded a day of 2 later.... and no one had gone there in between. What happens to all those "where's George" dollar bills in a case like that, anyway?

It just happens to be fresh in my mind because I picked up the CD River of Dreams from a Geocache in Hillsboro yesterday. I was really irritated I had taken it until THAT song come on. I turned it up really loud with the "sun" roof open (it's Oregon--it was sprinkling) and sang along trying to ignore that I had fallen in a hole, my knees were bleeding and I was shaken up by walking in a wetlands sanctuary which had given me that "Jurassic Park" feeling....... but, never mind. My stories can't compare with reading an OREGONE log or even the string under NORTHWEST that maps-r-us posted.

Hey Mark,

Good luck with the reconstruction -- I'm sure you put alot of work into the original, so I hope one of the previous finders reads these forums. Your mix is the greatest. Are you taking pre-orders? ;-)

Reconstruction is complete, with a new computer. First cuts are going in caches around the Chicago area soon - with some remote placements.

I was able to add four appropriate tracks as well, with a new "section," beefing up the play time to 18 tracks at 1:12 instead of 14 tracks at 0:59. Now the album is as follows:

--------------------

Celebrating the Release of Selective Availability

Fanfare for the Common Man (Copeland)

Hiding the Cache

Hall of the Mountain King from Peer Gynt (Grieg)

Heading Out on the Hunt

*Morning from Peer Gynt (Grieg)

*Sunday, the 7th Day (Chip Davis)

*Children's March (E.F. Goldman)

The Satellites

The Heavens are Telling (Haydn)

Difficulty and Terrain

Simple Gifts (Copeland)

Forrest Cump Suite (Silvestri)

The Valkiyrie (Wagner)

*Dies Irae (Verdi)

Seeking the Cache

Flight of the Bumblebee (Rimsky-Korsakov)

Hut on Fowl's Legs (Moussorgsky)

Finding the Cache

Great Gate of Kiev (Moussorgsky)

Hallelujah (Beethoven)

Hallelujah (Handel)

Reflections on Nature

My Lord, What a Morning (arr Burleigh)

River Run, from Canyon (Paul Winter)

What a Wonderful World (Armstrong)

thing I knew what she was thinking

Roll roll me away won't you roll me away tonight

I to am lost I feel double crossed and I'm sick of what's wrong and what's right

We never even said a word and we just walked out and got on that bike.

And we rolled

And we rolled clean out of site.

We rolled across the high plains.

Deep into the mountains

Felt so good to me

Finally feelin' free

Somewhere along high road

The air begins to turn cold

She said she missed home

I headed on alone

Stood alone on a mountain top starin' out at the Great Divide

I could go east I could go west it was all up to me to decide

Just then I say a young hawk flyin' and my soul began to rise

And pretty soon

My heart was singin'

Roll roll me away I'm gonna roll me away tonight

Gotta keep rollin' gotta keep ridin' keep searching till I find what's right

And as the sunset faded I spoke to the faintest first starlight.

And I said next time

Next time

We'll get it right.

Not to keep you hanging, JAMCC47, I did a quick web search and found the singer of your tune there.

My first hunch was Willy Nelson (like "On the Road Again", part 2) but the real answer also made a lot of sense.

One of his other songs, "Turn the Page", might also fit in with geocaching.
