Famous Quotes that could pertain to Geocaching.

There is too much gloom in the fourms today. Try to find a famous quote that could pretain to Geocaching...or twist it a might if you need to make it fit. My example is...

"Not everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted."

- Albert Einstein (1879-1955)

El Diablo

Everything you do in life...will impact someone, for better or for worse.

I can't agree more. Nobody is allowed to complain about anything fot the next 7 days. Except to complain about people complaing. thats allowed. My quote is my quote. by Robert Frost...

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Because now I am Lost.

A political quote,

"Tax reform means, 'Don't tax you, don't tax me. Tax that fellow behind the tree.'"

-Russell Long

ooh, I like this one better,

"The woods are lovely, dark and deep.

But I have promises to keep,

And miles to go before I sleep

And miles to go before I sleep."

-Robert Frost

I placed a cache a while back GCD32F and asked folks to leave quotes and so I've reviewed the quotes and chosen one for this thread.

The required quote here online I'll leave to old Longfellow, who's classic metaphor can speak for anyone who's ever put in a cache of their own:

I shot an arrow into the air,

It fell to earth, I knew not where;

For, so swiftly it flew, the sight

Could not follow it in its flight.

I breathed a song into the air,

It fell to earth, I knew not where;

For who has sight so keen and strong,

That it can follow the flight of song?

Long, long afterward, in an oak

I found the arrow, still unbroke;

And the song, from beginning to end,

I found again in the heart of a friend.

My cache log from Verona, No Gentleman (GC3058), a Shakespeare-inspired cache:

August 2 by Metaphor

On the walk: "Sweet are the uses of adversity, which, like a toad, though ugly and venomous, wears yet a precious jewel in its head..."

On the cache: "Things won are done; joy's soul lies in the doing..."

On the Travel bug: "Oh, you gods, why do you make us love your goodly gifts, and snatch them straight away..." (bug taken 7/17)

To the cache owner: "I can no other answer make, but, thanks, and thanks..."

"All of us are standing in the mud, but some of us are looking at the stars." Oscar Wilde

"There is more treasure in books than in all the pirates' loot on Treasure Island..."

Oops that's not pro- geocaching, how about..

The things that come to those that wait may be the things left by those who got there first."

and my favorite line from a bad movie: a couple asking a man for directions:

Can we walk there from here?

You can walk there from anywhere!

Last one...for now,

As the poet said, 'Only God can make a tree' -- probably because it's so hard to figure out how to get the bark on.

Woody Allen

Good one!

Since others are including lyrics, this is what immediately popped into my head. Maybe I have a different take on things, but this kind speaks to the somewhat isolated nature of the way we participate.

Walked out this morning

Don't believe what I saw

A hundred billion bottles

Washed up on the shore

Seems I'm not alone at being alone

A hundred billion casatways

Looking for a home

'Tis said, that the wolf, who makes a cache of his prey, and brings his fellows with him to the spot, if, on digging, it is not found, is instantly and unresistingly torn in pieces.

Let this be lesson to us all. Rehide the cache well or suffer the same fate.

I think an appropriate one, considering the latest happenings here, would be by our own Jeremy: "Discuss geocaching, don't be a hairless rat".

As for a twist on an old quote, I wonder if Will Rogers were a geocacher, would he say this, "All I know is what I read in the forums." ? icon_biggrin.gif
