Oh oh! Someone was thinking too hard....

Hey, I just had an idea:

There are certain public "areas" that are off-limits to GC and we know that "The Man" uses the GC website to patrol these areas virtually.

(I despise multi-caches but...)A way around this is to place a micro in a non-off-limits area that gives the final co-ordinates of a cache placed in a highly desireable, but still off-limits public location. That way "The Man" won't know unless they go to the trouble to get a GPS and actually do all the multi's in an area(and if they take the time to do that, I'm writing my congressman!)

I just watched the movie "Groove" the other night and this is kinda how they let everyone know about their underground raves on-line without getting busted.

Or maybe this is unspoken GC logic and the reason why so many people do Multi-caches now?

Oh who am I kidding? I don't have the motivation to do this. I'm so frickin disheartened and lazy, I have a new cache sitting out in the woods that I haven't bothered to register for about 3 months cause I'm too lazy to find my Etrex. It'd still be interesting to see how long the GC Admin lets this idea stay posted.....

WoW you are a genius. WTF is wrong with you that you want to be an arse like this?

If I was a mod here It would have been deleted already.

Further more I think if anyone sees you post a multi to the queue that it should be archived with no questions asked.

Good work so far though, Troll.

Also, its because of people like you that we will be having to verify all coords of multi caches soon.

Then you will come back in and cry about how long its taking to get your lame multi approved.

We already have to. Have you placed a multi lately? The admins want the coords of each stage.

I would hope anyone that cares about geocaching would realize how stupid this idea really is. We do not want to intentionally deceive land managers. We work with them and try to educate them on our sport. We have had great success with working with land managers, not all of the efforts have been successful. But posts like this will set us back even more.

If any geocacher finds a final stage of a geocache on lands that we know are off limits to geocaches I encourage you to report it immediately. It will be archived from the site.

I am an approver for a region that has permission policies in effect for some of the prime public land, such as Pennsylvania State Parks and Forests. I've been asking for the coordinates of ALL waypoints of a multicache since I started this job. I've caught a handful of caches that started outside a permit area and ended up inside one. It is a time-consuming process to check the maps and the distance to the nearest cache, for each waypoint, but it's worth it to preserve geocaching's good reputation. So far, I have not heard a single complaint from a land manager about a cache I've approved. To the contrary, I know of park officials who DO take the time to enjoy hunting down the caches placed with permission in the park they manage. I've also caught a multicache that had stages placed within 40 feet of an existing cache. (Yes, RJFerret, we check for that, too.)

Don't think you can fool us with bogus coordinates, either. Maps and aerial photographs can be very helpful in seeing whether a location looks kosher. And, with the approvers becoming increasingly regionalized, odds are that I will hunt that multicache someday. (I do throw out the waypoint coordinates and immediately forget about them...) Finally, I have an automated system to monitor for caches that are edited after they are approved.

When you submit a multicache, it helps GREATLY if you put the coordinates for all the stages in a note for the approver, posted on the cache page. It saves us having to send a separate message to ask for them, so your cache will be approved faster. We delete the note when we're done reviewing your cache.

Instead of asking questions before approving a cache (which increases approval time and amount of work for approvers), or putting all of the coords in the description (which you may or may not be able to remove before those first cachers read it).....

why not create one more line on the submission form?

If the cache is identified as a multicache, there would be just be one more space to fill out when submitting a cache. Something like:

Enter coordinates for each waypoint below:

So do all of the stages of a multi-cache have to conform to the .1 mi away from the nearest cache rule?

news for the uninformed

they already ask for the final coordinates on multis for just this reason. Have done it for over 6 months now. I was totally caught off guard when I was asked for them on a multi I placed. So get with the times. It's a rather stupid idea anyway, trying to get around the national park rules.

AS a hider of caches inside Pa Finest Public lands, I can tell you first hand....

if it's a Multi-cache, they want to know where each stage is.

They do check the areas for sensitive plants or wildlife.

They DO search for your cache and HAVE even signed the Log Book.

Take the time to talk to the Ranger and they will even point you to some very interesting sites that you didn't know existed!!

I have a better idea. How about stop being a jacka$$ and ask permission before placing a cache. You're only contributing to the bad karma we already have with "The man."

I just watched the commercial for "Jacka$$" the other night and this is kinda how they let everyone know about their defective gene pool.

That idea has been suggested. Until then, what we recommend is that you put a "Note to the Approver" in either your description or as a note on the cache page. In that include all information you think we'll need to review the cache. We will make sure to delete all those notes before activiting the cache.

So I guess it wouldn't be that easy, huh.

I'm sorry for the hooplah but just but to ease everyone's worries, I'm not going to do this and(as I said)I seriously wasn't planning on doing it. It just came to me in a wierd realization. Personally,I respect and follow "The Rules" and since the message was not deleted in the first place, I guess you all agree that discussing this idea was a good...er, idea.

As for the personal attacks:

UMC- Relax, it's just a game.

Breaktrak - Huh?

Septc_tank - Relax, it's just a game.

Jeremy - you can...have a wonderful and prosperous weekend because you're the bestest Webmaster I know and I apologize for any inconvenience I've caused you or GC(smooch!).

Feel free to discuss this further but I'd sincerely appreciate no more soiling of the good Goat6500 name. Thank you.
