Goofus and Gallant Go Geocaching

Recommended Posts

Gallant writes how much he liked the cache, adds a few comments about what he saw while searching for it and what he took & left. He writes these things in both the physical logbook AND in the online log. He makes the cache-hider happy that he placed the cache.

Goofus writes just the date & his name in the physical logbook. He MIGHT log it online and, if he does, it's usually just "FCTNLN"

http://www.highlightskids.com/Stories/GnG/images/h1GnGgallant.gif Gallant obeys every law, doesn't cache at night past a park curfew, and all of his hides are accurately rated.

http://www.highlightskids.com/Stories/GnG/images/h1GnGgoofus.gif Goofus hides a 'Nam Flashback cache, gives it a 1/1 rating, fills it with live grenades, guns, dope, and porn, and surrounds it with pungi sticks and bouncing Betties. In his description he uses the term "Kid Friendly."

h1GnGgoofus.gif Goofus finds a travel bug, drops it into his stash bag forgetting about it for six months, never logs it, never returns the emails from the original travel bug owner and finally decides to make it a keepsake while placing the silver tag that was attached to it in some 5/5 cache on the top of Mt. Kilamangaro.

29083_7200.gif Gallant gives an encrypted clue stating the precise distance and bearing (specifying true or magnetic) that the cache is from a unique nearby landmark.

Gallant takes care to ensure a positive image of geocachers by asking permission, trashing out, being respectful of others and being involved in the forums to help out people new to the game.

Goofus worships Satan, so he doesn't give a crap.

Gallant knows to treat other people with respect on the forums, because his words reflect back on him.

Goofus rarely has anything to contribute on the forums. Fortunately only a couple of people know he's Gallant's sock puppet...

h1GnGgallant.gif Gallant carries sticks and twigs and several different colors of spray paint in his stash bag to help improve the camoflage of the cache that he's seeking because he heard that it needed some help blending in with the environment.

When caching with a group, Gallant discreetly moves away from the cache after he's spotted it, giving everyone a chance to find it on their own.

Goofus grabs the cache and spikes it in front of everyone, yelling "BOO-HAAAAAAAAA!" and doing his favorite cache dance.

h1GnGgallant.gif Gallant only leaves hamsters at large 1/1 caches that are in quickly accessible urban parks, right before a weekend when the weather forecast is good.

h1GnGgoofus.gif Goofus visits a members-only cache in mid-February and stuffs a hamster into a decon container hanging 50 feet up a tree that is miles from the nearest jeep trail.

Next time, instead of getting married, I think I'll just find a woman I don't like and buy her a house.

Gallant gets the coords right when placing a cache, puts some time and thought into it and turns it into a clever adventure.

Goofus drops a leaky micro near a location ideally suited to a real cache, forgets the pencil, situates it in a thicket of poison oak and leaves spoilers that guarantee to erase the adventure.

Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean someone really isn't out to get you.
