+flask
ok, i'm thinking of placing a cache, that (and i stress this part) although it is perfectly safe, may appear to be scary. or startling. should i advise the hunter to bring a change of underwear,or just let 'em walk into it and be surprised? i'm afraid of both heights and closed spaces, and some of my favorite finds are crevices and high places. i'm thinking that scariness might be an attraction, but i also don't want to send people blind into heart failure. any thoughts? oh, wait... of course you have thoughts. it doesn't matter if you get to camp at one or at six. dinner is still at six. +georgeandmary
I've placed a cache that when opened a coiled up snake jumpped out. It catches some, but many people expect it. george Pedal until your legs cramp up and then pedal some more. Quote Link to comment
WolfPack2099
Perhaps you can find a location that is suspected to be "haunted".... then post the ghost story about the site on your cache page. This might be enough to freak some people out. Quote Link to comment
Tahosa and Sons
I believe this notice keeps people away from this cache. This Cache is in Cat Country, so practice standard safety precautions. +carleenp
Well, you could hint that the cache has a surprise and then encrypt it in the hint or a note. Then people who wanted to check first could. At the same time, people like me who can't stand the curiosity would read the hint and ruin the surprise even if we would have prefered to be surprised. No way to fix that problem I guess Quote Link to comment

Kitschy
I'm new to this whole geocaching thing, so I'll have to look at the guidelines... But, I was thinking about putting a cache by "the slaughterhouse" here in Norman, Oklahoma. The slaughterhouse is a large warehouse that, allegedly, back in the day was used for slaugtering cows. My friends made a video and caught some pretty freaky images on it. I would post a link to it from that geocaching web site...then the geocacher could check it out for themselves. Since this is a college town (the university of Oklahoma is here) students go out there for a rush...and boy is it a rush. FREAK-Y! Fun though. Anybody from around here know what I'm talking about? Also, the "13th floor" would be another scary place to go... Its the stuff urban legends are made of Luke Quote Link to comment

No way to fix that problem I guess Just make it a two or three part multi. At the first part (now you have the finder already in the woods) leave a message about the haunting, a mt lion, old scary fable or what ever. Add to the story on the second part. To make it even better make it a night cache with reflective tape to lead you along your way. On the web page make sure to post it must be done at night with a flashlight but don't mention anything about the scare. Quote Link to comment

+Zartimus
I have one of those, but it is perfectly safe. As long as you mention that it involves heights, water, closed spaces, etc. on the cache page, people who have issues with those sorts of things will police themselves. I find the less you say about the cache, the better! And I love reading the logs of people's impressions of it! Ince of Walcs (Kevin was here) Quote Link to comment
