Geocaching Report on Channel 4 News This AM!

Recommended Posts

Nice 5 minute story with an explaination and interview with a cacher this morning. They did a good job explaining the whole process and describing the process of finding a cache.

Funny thing was the guy they interviewed came up cacheless trying to find a cache in Central Park while on tv. icon_smile.gif

More info is supposed to be on News Channel 4 but it wasn't up yet.

That's what I did when I was asked to help out on a PBS spot. I had found the cache several months earlier and even went out to the cache while they were setting up the opening shots (I was being nice to the reporter-babe and knocking down spiderwebs for her). And yet SOMETHING had to go wrong!

The guy setting up the spot kept wanting more shots of us walking....we ended up walking pretty far past the point where I had gone off trail and then got under some nasty tree cover. All in all, a cache that earlier the same day had taken me under 10 minutes to find ended up taking us better than a half hour.

Oh well, they'll clean it up in editing, I'm sure. bad_boy_a.gif

They didn't mention his name but there were a few people shown in the report and some were walking on the beach.

Not sure if they were actual geocachers or just muggles posing as geocachers and it looked like everyone had Magellens so who knows.

I was hoping whoever was in the report would post. There was no specific mention of Geocaching.com he just said "Visit one of the geocaching websites".

The link is on this page, in the box for "Feedroom Video", called "High-Tech Hide-And-Seek". I tried to copy the shorcut into a link here, but it is a javascript call and didn't co-operate....

I thought it was pretty positive. It would have been better if they had found the cache!

But, all in all, it seemed pretty favorable coverage to me.

My two cents worth, refunds available on request. (US funds only)

Actually looks like the "geocacher" (more likely a Magellan sales rep) tried to find three: In the Ramble; TONY; and Swamp Gas.

Would have been a real black eye for the RASH if they had found any of the other "treasures" encountered by 'cachers in the vicinity of the Swamp Gas cache. icon_wink.gif

Most of the other shots of 'cachers in action looks like canned Magellan promo footage.
