WOW!

Can you help me clean out my garage?? icon_wink.gif

Actually, if you can put this online somewhere for everyone to access easily, that would be great!

Can I get an email copy of it?

Ok, here's a posted HTML version:

Categorized Locationless Caches

I'm using the various icons to track the ones I've done, or may do someday, etc. So just ignore them. If there's enough interest, I'll post a "clean" version with just the empty box icons so you can print it out and check off the ones you've done. If not, you can always cut & paste and make your own page icon_smile.gif

Great job! We hit a few today, being a bit on the lazy side because we were both a little sore from the last cache we did yesterday (it was NOT fun tromping through weeds taller than me.... some WITH thorns..... getting your feet and legs tangled up.... for a half mile or more). We didn't want to waste a day, so we did one virtual, and several locationless caches icon_smile.gif

That's really good!

Just one small point. When you've put a country name in brackets, I assume you mean it's only available in that country. If so, then I'd just like to point out that 'Church Tower view' and 'Berlin Wall' are not limited to specific countries.

Thanks for the categorization - I haven't done many locationless caches, but do intend to do more, and wading through that long alphabetical list on the search results is a pain. Often I can remember what a particular locationless is about, but can't remember its name.

Same for me.

It's a good and usefull overview!

Additionally to this thread:

I wrote a tool (LocLess2Loc) to generate a loc-file with all coords of Locationless Caches Logs. This loc-file can be used with your favorite mapping software to show the locations. This makes it easier to check if the location you want to log is not already logged by somebody else.

There is also a very good site where you can upload the loc-file directly to get an overview map: GPS Visualizer

Or you can use CacheMaps to generate maps for you. LocLess2Loc is also integrated in CacheMaps.

You can find LocLess2Loc here in my download area.

Beachbuddies you have had way toooo much itm on your hands. icon_razz.gif

But seriously, that is totally awesome though and I thank you for the effort. icon_biggrin.gif

The alphabetized list is hard to work with sometimes. icon_rolleyes.gif

These changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes;

Nothing remains quite the same.

Thanks to your list, I found two more I can do in my home town.

I agree with you about restarting locationless caches...I don't think people realize the wealth of information archived in these (sites and pictures) that are disappearing off the face of the earth everyday...which makes it an adventure getting them before "poof" gone.

You're right, thanks. Interesting that you can log the Berlin Wall anywhere, since there are pieces of it all over the place now. icon_smile.gif I'll update those in the next version.

Actually, I could only find that one on Navicache.com. Currently the list only includes the ones from Geocaching.com.

I'll have an updated list shortly (a day or so). I'm indicating which ones are archived, and adding the real cache name (in some cases). I'll send you a copy.

That's neat! I did notice on the Lewis & Clark Trail page, that they had included a nice map of everyone's logs. It's especially interesting since it effectively marks most of the trail. icon_smile.gif

I have mixed feelings about these. I think some of them are terrific, and others are pretty lame (I won't say which) icon_razz.gif I can understand why GC.com is reluctant to support them. I think if they ever do come back, you would need a good process for approving them. Something that involved more than one approver. Maybe even some sort of poll where you have to get a pretty large number of Yes votes. Also, I think it would be good to limit the number of Locationless caches any one user is allowed to post. Maybe you could post no more than the number of real (i.e., traditional) caches you have hidden.

holy locationless finds batman!

that was truly useful and impressive. nice job. maybe you could have this thread put somewhere with a sticky so it stays at the top of the catagory. i'd ask jeremy. maybe someone should ask jeremy to make the site searchable this way? oh wait, probably not since LC are going away (well maybe not away, but no new ones are coming)

Monsieur Sock Puppet

The name is French. It is pronounced Poo-Pay, not like the silly childrens toy.

Why does "lovers' leap" fall under towns and citys?

Hmmm... no good reason I can recall. The whole process is a bit subjective icon_smile.gif

I guess because the caches in the Towns and Cities section mostly involved finding places with particular names (Bridge-town, Z-town, etc), so it sort of seemed to fit (since the idea with that one is to find a place named Lover's Leap). Maybe I should rename that section something more generic?

Or it could go in the Venues and Points of Interest section. But I'd like to keep each section under 10 entries or so, if possible. That one should probably be split into 2 sections anyway.

Maybe the Regional Point of Interest section? That seems like a pretty good fit, but it's not like the other caches in that section.

And the Interesting Sightings is just a catch-all section too.. it would be nice to break that one up.

Thoughts, anyone?

I don't remember who said it but...

People were using old sneakers as caches.

I think ther're trying to tighten up the guidline for locationless caches.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I-

I took the one less traveled by,

And that has made all the difference.

Because now I am Lost.

Hehe...you are right! Don't know how I missed that one icon_biggrin.gif

It might be better to put it under Art, Sculpture, and Cultural Icons but does not really matter. I also just wanted to bump your thread cause it is pretty cool! icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks to your list, I just bagged 3 today! I don't know why locationless has been banned. I had so much fun trying to look for them and learned a bit about history as well. It is a nice change to TNLNSL TFTH kinda caches. They should at least allow the historical ones like the One Room Schoolhouse that I did today...even researching old train depots was pretty cool too.

Has anyone done this already or have a gpx file made some other way?? No need to re-invent the wheel, perhaps we can post it somewhere for others to use as well...

Sure, just select Locationless (Reverse) Cache as the cache type in pocket queries, then GPX as the output. I had to Duh myself on this one awhile back.

The PQ demands a location of some sort, then it's restricted :-(
