SunCat Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Just ordered my first GPS (the Meridian basic unit) and would like to get a compass. I really don't want to spend much, otherwise, I'd get a GPS with a compass. Any recommendations of a good, realiable compass to bring geocaching? Quote
+briansnat Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 Silva, Brunton and Suunto are good brands. The most versatile is a baseplate model like the Silva Starter or Silva Polaris. Both are reliable and will work fine for most applications. If you plan on getting into serious orienteering then the Silva Ranger or Brunton Eclipse are very good models. +jeff35080 Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 My Marble's Pocket Compass is awesome. It's not liquid filled, but is small enough that is in my pocket everyday. Here's a link: http://www.marblesoutdoors.com/compass/index.html and to see it next to a benchmark to compare size, click here: http://www.geocaching.com/mark/details.asp?PID=DH0704 Jeff http://www.StarsFellOnAlabama.com http://www.NotAChance.com If you hide it, they will come.... Jomarac5 Posted May 8, 2003 Posted May 8, 2003 The Suunto A-10 is a great compass for the price (about $10 Cdn). It's very reliable liquid filled compass. I used one for a long time and I've even been putting them in caches as a bonus item. For a simple compass, you can't go wrong. ----- Quote
