PICTURES - Geocaching Vehicle's Stuck

We never dreamed it would get that high, and when it did, the Jetta was trapped in the building, so we lifted it in the air with a forklift and propped it up as so...

Could be worse: http://eyelab.msu.edu/people/gary/car.jpg

Outside the apartment I had in Farmington Hills, Michigan. (Yes, Michigan, that state known for all the flooding :) ).

(Picture not included in thread since it wasn't while geocaching, but I can sympathize with CW Iams. Picture also taken after the water had gone down a little, so it was probably 3 inches higher at one point. Car located in an area that if you told someone it would flood you'd say they were nuts.)

Looks as though it got an inch or two above the bottom door seal...any water get inside? Not the safest of jack stand jobs, but I guess any port in a storm as it were..... :)

Fortunately it did not get into the interior- the body of the door on the exterior is about 3 inches lower than the interior part of the car (if that makes any sense :o )

This is my buddy's 8.1L Chevy that we had to have pulled out by some cowboys tending to their cattle on a ranch nearby. The mud here is absolute gumbo, and when the trailer fishtailed, it pulled the rest of the truck in with it. Despite that big block powerplant and 4LO, it was just too goopy. Yes, the Jeep is being trailered, because we play hard. Much easier to nurse a broken vehicle a few miles than to try and drive it 60 miles home. :)

100_0215.jpg

That water puddle was just a tad too much. I soaked my distributor and barely nursed it out to clean up and get back on my way.

Yep, another Jeep stuck. My BFG AT's work wonders on street snow, but with 3' or so below you, they tend to scoop it up and hold on for dear life. This was one of those times I wished I hat the BFG MT's or some Swamper TSLs just for off-road snow driving. We were on our way to some ice caves a few miles further up the mountain, but the snow became impossible to navigate not far beyond this. Notice the old school LandCruiser behind me. During the first stuck digout, these guys showed up and we spent the day playing tow tag.

I wish I had thought about taking a pic of my old 4x2 Nissan pickup in one seriously hairy situation. But I was more concerned about figuring out if I could get out of the mess I had gotten myself into. This happened to be the same day I hit a rock covered by a dirt mound and punched my oil pan. It didn't puncture, but started to leak around the gasket.

Where is that? It looks familiar. In Southern Utah, in Johnson Canyon, I encountered mud like that. A friend who got out to walk about 100 yards ended up with so much mud on his boots he could hardly lift his feet.

Until then he didn't understand why I wouldn't drive up the road any further.

There are a group of 'wheelers in the Kelowna area of BC who love snow 'wheeling. They build trucks to run 44" or taller tires for floatation and have huge horsepower to keep the speed up. In fact, one of them took first place in one of the first three Top Truck Challenge that Fourwheeler Magazine puts on every year. He was running front/rear independent axles from a Gamma Goat powered by a huge Cadillac engine. It had air over hydraulic struts so it could adjust its ride height.

Here's a pic of my buddy's Blazer (I'm the one standing in the snow). This is probably a bit too heavy for really great snow 'wheeling but it still floated better on its 44" tires than I did on my feet. It runs Unimog portal axles so getting hung up on the diffs is very rare. Due to the low gear reduction at the four gear boxes, he had to build adapters so he could run a transfer case reduction box backwards to use as an overdrive on the highway. I think it was a 205 tcase mated to a backwards 203 reduction box.

Some of y'all may remember this little mishap from GeoWoodstcok 2 last year in Nashville. Strangely the owner and driver of this vehicle is missing from both photos. He was quite upset thinking he had ruined his afternoon. It took me about 5 minutes to round up the required number of people and about 10 seconds for us to lift it off the culvert. One more thing the driver IceCreamMan blamed ME for this mishap since I was navigating..... SHEESH! :P:P

Whoopieee I finally got a picture to post here. For the first time in 20 years I got stuck! And it was on a geocaching trip.

Dsc_0155.jpg

As you can see when I get stuck, I get stuck. We had crossed a few place like this during the day with no problems. What I didn't know was that somebody had cut some pretty deep ruts through this patch with a very high clearance rig. The ruts filled back in with soupy mud. Mid way through the mud patch I slid off the high spots into the ruts. In the picture my truck is sitting completely on the frame, the wheels are suspended in liquid dirt.

Deer/car accident......very minor and not stuck but I wanted a reason to BUMP this thread (best thread around!) This should be a "accident/stuck while caching" thread anyway!

Happened at this cache

Note the deer hair on the hood! Deer and cachers were fine, with minimal damage to the car.

Hard to tell from this angle, but this is a fairly steep Hill climb,

with a large rutt right up the middle...

This one is my favorites, I drove out of a real pickle with 3 tires in the air,

just needed a little nudge from my buddy to get me back on all fours

This picture is captioned, "Uh-oh, I think I made a BIG mistake. Where's my liquid paper? WHERE'S my liquid paper?" I didn't get stuck, but I sure thought I was going to.

At the top of that little driveway is a busy road. I, in my 2WD Chevy S-10 pickup, had to get a running start from where I couldn't see if anybody was coming. It took me about 20 tries before I got out of there when the road was clear to turn on to.

Here is the log that goes with the picture. At least I was FTF!

I know this is a really old thread, but we're new!

We didn't get stuck, of course, we have a Jeep! But a couple of weeks ago, we were on our way back from this cache, and found a these two guys stuck up to their axles in the sand. The Jeep came to the rescue, as we happen to have some rope with us, and, well, a Jeep. The Jeep rocks. :anibad:Stuck.jpg

I told my wife to take a picture of us stuck!! She said no way..... We drove in a road in 2 wheel drive and when I hit the first snow bank I popped it into 4 wheel and noticed that my front wheels dropped into the crusted over snow.........it was 2 feet deep. I quickly stopped but it was too late. Right up to the frame in the front!!!! Had to get a tow truck, he winched us out easily since I didn't go in very far.......should've walked!!!

Blueberry Forest Cache

GCK8R1

February 26 by Coastiegirl04 (167 found)

So, i didn't find it, but i still had an interesting experience with this cache, i must say... Well i parked on the side of the road, and i didn't know there wasn't much of a shoulder due to the snow... my whole passenger side of my car went off the ledge... i got myself stuck, my car couldn't get back up because of the snow! it just kept slipping off, so i was good and truly stuck there... so i was out of the car trying to decide should i try to flag someone down and get help moving it out or wait and get the cache, and then flag someone down.. so being a cacher, i decide i'm already stuck am probly going to be there for a while, i'll go for the cache, and then work on getting my car out, so i pludge into the woods in search of the cache, i looked and i looked couldn't find it.. darn it.. i go back to the car and start working on getting the car out, (now i have a Ford Escape with 4wd) you would think i could get it out no problem right? yea no... so i keep trying i get it a little worse then it already was, i moved my car up and on to ice, so all four wheels are turning, but no movement either way! so am good and stuck now, finally a van goes by a nice guy gets out and ask if i need help i told him i do, i need to get my car out, So the guys ask me while we are looking and seeing how we are going to do this, "what was i doing that i got my car stuck like this?" So i repied "well i was geocaching." "whats that?" i started laughing" its a sport where you go out to the woods and look for a box with your GPS" i swear to god i thought when the guy left to get a tow strap from his cabin. that he wasn't going to be back from the look he gave me... But lucky he did, and with the help of another truck and the van guy's tow strap they got me out in like 5 seconds flat.. Believe, that very day, i went out and bought myself a towing strap, so if i get in that trouble again (for its fact that it probley will happen again) or someone else gets in trouble i can help!

Agh, but after that little experience i decide i was done for the day and headed back for Two Rivers, But do believe i will be back! i will get this cache, for the experience it put me through! it will be FIND!

We got FTF on this cache, but at a price. It's kind of hard to tell, but the car was completely covered in muddy water after we bottomed out in a huge hole at the entrance to this cache. I thought we were going to have to get a tow, as the actual frame of the car was sitting solidly on the ground.

However, after a bit of rocking back and forth and a LOT of mud slinging, I wrestled it from mud trap.

I wish I had snapped a picture of the car stuck in the hole, but I was too worried about the situation at that point.

You can read the log here

That's not a Jeep in my book....it's a luxury car with 4wd........BIG difference!

Luxury my rear. That is a Jeep by my standards, I am biased we have 2 of them.

I just wish I could find places like around here that to cache.

Our third time in this thread!;) Got stuck in 2WD, couldn't get the 4WD to engage since you have to move to get it to engage. The quad was able to pull us about 25 feet backwards, 4WD engaged and we were on our way.

Look for us on a redneck video show on CMT. Some ATVers took video and said they were going to send it in! Didn't catch their names, but, Thanks Guys! ;)

Yesterday I got my Miata stuck in a country car park. For some reason this foorball-field, shale-covered car park near a sports ground has some 6-inch diameter logs lined up across the halfway mark, but they are covered in weeds and hard to see. On arriving I parked the car up against them. When I went to drive away the car park was empty, so rather than reversing out I drove forward. I had enough momentum to get the front wheels over but then the log got stock under the mud flaps, and I couldn't reverse out because the rear wheels were spinning and digging ruts in the shale/sand - it had been raining non-stop for more than 24 hours.

It's the first time I've had the Miata stuck. I did get my FWD minivan stuck in mud about 18 months ago, on a Saturday, too far down a forest trail for a tow-truck to get to me - and this was a quick diversion on the way to a skiing vacation. :) By an amazing stroke of luck, two guys with a big tractor were chopping wood nearby and dragged us out. Nowadays I stick to tarmac roads and, er, proper car parks. :)

Haven't gotten stuck yet, but trying! Here we have what we call Nevada Pinstripes. Those are the long scrapes alongside your doors from narrow trails. Just received ours this weekend and they range from the rocker panels to the roof (95 Yukon with 3" lift). Maybe a Miata would've avoided them!

no getting stuck here. have excellent mudding feet :anitongue:
