I just read about these two pics in This Thread. I would like to know if anyone else had vehicle stuck or something happen to a vehicle while geocaching. Please Post Pics if you have them.

I drove my 2001 Kia Rio down a gravel road this past weekend and almost got stuck....the sad thing is I am serious!!!!! Sorry though no pics.

I scratched up the bumper of my car on the way to a cache and then found the GPS sticker in the cache. I don't like to put stickers on my car, but since it was already marred, it seemed appropriate to put it by the scratch.

TOO BAD the sticker wasn't quite a bit LARGER!! It could have covered the scratch. Sorry about the battle scar! But a least you got your *Medal* soon after the injury.

This is what happened to me on my way back from planting this cache. It was a rental car so I figured what the heck I can make it though that puddle! I was quite deep in the woods. Good thing my friend Mike (2snowdogs) was willing to come save me. I gave him my coords and he was there in 15 minutes. Then he went and logged a FTF on my cache.

I still never hear the end of it. Every time we see a PT Cruiser Mike says 'hey, should I ask him how to put that in 4 wheel drive?'

5,000 kms of driving
deep in the backcountry
one wheel in the air with a 500 foot drop off on the other side
only way out was to back further over the edge
got out safely
changed pants

I did try taking my Alfa Romeo on the most direct route to a cache - unfortunately it's not the best off-roading vehicle.

We haven't got stuck yet, but our cachemobile has actually grounded on a paved road in the past (one with tractor grooves). It's not very suitable, but we love it so dearly...

No, it's not 4-wheel drive, but we can probably lift an end of it between us.

I wasn't stuck... I was in 4Lo in a very capable off road vehicle.

There's a fine line between Geocaching and mental illness, I'm just not sure which side of the line I'm on!

Here is my Saturn stuck at this cache:47,520 Feet

I had my cell phone, so I just called up my dad, he came and pulled me out of the ditch with his minivan. Had plenty of time to go and log the cache to pass the time.

This doens't really count as a geocaching vehicle. Its a picture of a front-end loader that I came across on one of my earlier cache finds (Nature Reserve #1). It was in a bog. Someone told me that they apparently even unsuccessfully tried to get it out with a helicopter! Now its kind of a tourist attraction and they have actually built the raised wooden pathway around it.

I have never in my life learned anything from any man who agreed with me.

What's even funnier is that the Cat in your photo was the one sent in to rescue the one that you can't see anymore. There's two of them in there!

Wow, I have been stuck a few times, not while geocaching, and unfortunatley never had a digital camera available. maybe next time.

A friend who owned a jeep once told me that if you have never been stuck, you have never really been off roading. I think he is right on. Every vehicle will get stuck at one time or another. Hats off to those who push the limits.

This thread is a good reminder to make sure your caching ride is prepared. I always carry the essentials for myself, and at minimum tow straps, shackles, shovel and other various things for unstucking a truck. Best thing you can have is another vehicle to either go for help, or use the strap to give you a tug in the right direction.

Search Recue Dog's stuck hummer wins my vote for the buried axle vote. I actually rolled a military Hummer on 5 July 1994. It only cost me one month's pay on repairs. Not a geocaching story, but I'll have to dig up the photos on that one.

Here's my truck after coming back from checking on my caches "spooky canyon" and "the road to nowhere". Had to cross a dry lake bed on the way back home. It had rained here recently so the lake bed wasn't very dry.

The Cache I never got to was at the end of a well groomed road.

Even the smallest rocks can take out a Malibu's oil pan.

Yes it is only 4 inches across...

and it did over $500 damage...

We called the TOW Truck. $100 for THAT.

If my scanner still worked, I'd post the pic of my Toyota 4x4 in the Ninnescah river up to it's windshield. It wasn't stuck, just wet. Also had one of the same truck laying on the passenger side at a 45 degree angle in a very muddy ditch. Again, not stuck, just "temporarily immobilized".

I spent 6 hours one night stuck at this cache, Iced Tea 14 Lights Up My Life (GC3F30), log from July 8th, 2003. It was 9PM, just getting dark and I stuck my nose into the beginning of the trail to see if it was still really muddy, it was, and I lost my nose. Called a friend to give me a hand and he grabbed his camera, but did not want to go to the front of my truck. Where I drove in was not all that bad, except this one rut that was filled in with mud, I sunk into it right to the frame. Bad combination, worn tires, sand, clay, regular dirt and a little water mixed in.

Here I am asking to not have my picture taken around 11PM after trying to jack the front end up and digging, there is a shovel in the truck now.

Ended up with a flat tire, sand in the bead.

I ended up getting a dump truck that was delivering asphalt for the highway nearby to give me a yank out sideways (explains the sand in my tire) at 3AM after several attempts to get a tow truck, they did not want to go in after me. Gotta get myself a winch, and some new tires!

The only trouble I have had with a vehicle while Geocaching happened on the last day of our vacation in Hawaii. I went hunting early expecting to be back long before check out time. The cache was on a beautiful beach on Hawaii's Kona coast about 12 miles from our condo. I parked the rental, grabbed the GPSr and locked the keys in the trunk with my cell phone. Needless to say it was a long day. I did log the cache. I did pick up my family sitting in the street in front of the condo. I did make the 6 hour flight home. What an adventure!

Dude- you missed out on a few of the caches we got on the last Xcursion. On one of them, Smuggler's Cave, we kind of took the scenic route. Our vehicles didn't get stuck but we made a few hiking mistakes on the way. We didn't bring water or any hand held radios. After making a few bad decisions following a trail left by illegal immigrants we never really got any closer to the cache. But eventually we made it to the cache in 45 minutes. We found the real trail back to hte trucks and it only took 10 minutes.

Yup, then you can get stuck further off road.......LOL. Best off to get two winches, one for your truck and one for your buddy as sometimes that is the ONLY way to get out.

Helps to be real inventive too, carry lots of ropes, pulleys, and even a good folding anchor, as well as at least one Jack-all. One thing that really helped was to mount the winch on a trailer reciever so that you can mount it either in the front or the back of the truck. If you drive into something and get stuck the front mounted winch is not so helpful in getting you BACK out, if you want to return to where you were not stuck......

If my scanner was working, I'd have a picture or two of my cousin's truck. We went hunting in Colorado just over a year ago. We drove his 82 Blazer 4x4 with a winch. We got stuck in a wash that he thought his truck was short enough to make. The winch bumper proved to shorten the approach angle just enough...

Not only was the bumper stuck in the dirt, it had gone over and got hung up on the root of some sagebrush. We dug out enough underneath for the winch cable, but he had already dug the tires in too deep.

After a long walk back to camp (including hitching a ride with some other hunters on ATV's) we called a tow truck. On the way back to the Blazer, the tow truck driver got stuck! We had to dig him out (at least he had shovels with him) before rescuing our truck. On top of that, we still had to pay him around $350 to get our truck unstuck.

I helped my buddy install a winch on his Ford 4x4. Front mounted, with a piece of U-channel running the length of the frame underneath. The winch hook was attached to the back bumper so that we had winching ability both front and back. Saved our butts a couple of times, including once when he made it through ahead of me and I got stuck. He couldn't turn around, but was able to winch me out anyway with that cool little setup.

Until I get stuck this will have to do. I'm not saying that a Land Cruiser can't get stuck, just that I never have.
