What do you carry when caching?

Like many geocachers I’m a bit of a gear nut. I was wondering what others carry with them to go cache hunting. Here’s my current “rig”

Etrex Legend and an extra set of batteries

Camelbak HAWG – 100oz hydration pack

Palm III loaded with all of the caches in the current area sealed in a gallon Ziploc

Cannon S100 digital camera in waterproof case

A fine point sharpie and a mechanical pencil

A gallon Ziploc with geoshwag

A couple powerbars

Sunscreen and a small first aid kit

Hey, I'll bite!! Like mentioned above you can do a search for the backpack, but everytime i get to them its a mile long, so why waste time. What i carry in my backpack:

1. My GPS

2. Leatherman Juice (2 of them)

3. Lighters

4. Maps

5. Book of directions for caches (print-outs)

6. Flashlights (2 of them)

7. plastic bag full of cache goodies

8. small first-aid kit

9. a medium size candle (i know your saying to your self.. what for) well i carry one incase something happenes and its night time or its in a dark area, so you dont have to wear out your batteries, just light a candle to be able to see and have light (becareful not to start forest fires)

10. spare keys (car and home)

11. wallet (ids & cash)

12. backup writing utensils (pens & pencils)

13. spare batteries

14. camera (disposable ones)

15. gum & water & lip gloss

16. cellphone

17. small pair of scissors

18. a pair of EMT shears (cuts anyting)

19. bug spray (Deep Woods Off)

Anything can go in your backpack as long as you see need for it!! icon_razz.gif

Hmm... Probably a very good idea. I've only started seriously geocaching recently, and until now my "kit" has only included the GPS, Cell phone, bug repellent, and sunscreen.

It's certainly a very good idea to bring some extras for safety. Now most of the stuff I do is reasonably "urban" (no more than an hour or so out of town), so I feel that my cell phone is the best safety, but I'm going to put together a small pack that contains a few extra things I think are valuable:

-My leatherman wave

-2 x plastic cig. lighters

-couple of candles

-some first aid supplies (disinfectant & bandages)

-spare GPS batteries

-flashlight

I doubt I'll always take it with me - not too much chance of having to rough it in a city park, but I'll keep it in the car's trunk as a dual-purpose caching/car kit.
