Already posted my info...I'm not a huge geocoin person, but a military coin would be one I'd get! (I'm technically not a vet yet, still in after 17 years  ). I was thinking the front could be the 5 service emblems in a circle around the gc.com logo. On the back could be a US flag in the center with the words "US Military Geocachers" "Proudly Serving" or something like that around it. Of course, with a trackable number on the back.

I just got a catalog from a company that seemed to have really good rates. I'll pick it up tomorrow and check them out (I'm going to a conference today).

NAVY (WAVE) - 9 years, 4 months Aerographer's Mate

Was and still am a Libertarian

to quote Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC:

It's the soldier, not the reporter who has given us

Freedom of the Press.

It's the soldier, not the poet, who has given us

Freedom of Speech.

It's the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.

It's the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the

Right to a Fair Trial.

It's the soldier who salutes the flag, serves under the flag and whose coffin is draped by the flag,

Who gives the protestor the right to burn the flag.

that would be great on a geocoin

19K4HA8, that's an M1A1 Armor Crewman, E7, Instructor, Master Gunner.

Currently assigned to the 1-204th Armor Training Bn. That's a "schoolhouse" in Boise, Idaho. We teach BNCOC (Basic Non-Commissioned Officers Course), ANCOC (Advanced " ") 19K MOSQ (Military Occupational Specialty Qualification)

19D MOSQ, (that's scout stuff), and TCCC (Tank Commanders Certification Course)

Best job in the world. All the perks of active duty, without having to move every few years. Unless we get deployed (again).

Now call me shallow if you wish but knowing someone served, in whatever capacity, in our nation's forces gives them a little more credibiity with me when it comes to what they say.

Which "our" nation are you all talking about in an international game?

Oh, and my wife and I have served in the former yugoslavian secret service. Now that you know, we'll have to shoot you all. :o

By the way: I like the picture of the icelandic cavalry. :P

USAF 1993-1994

Okay so I didn't have much time in, but i'll explain.

Basic at Lackland

Tech school at Keesler

Sent to Ramstein AB, Germany.

My brother was in a horrible auto accident and was airlifted to the hospital. For a week or so, they weren't sure he was gonna make it. My mother, who has a bad heart, had a heart attack when they brought him home. I had to choose between something I loved & was very proud to be a part of, and my family. I chose my family. I received an honerable hardship discharge with exactly 1 yr in and went home to take care of my family.

To this day, I look back and smile with pride at what I had accomplished. I was a smart mouth, defiant teenager who quickly got pegged 'trouble' during basic. I learned more in 6 wks than I have at any other time period in my life. The discipline, integrity, pride & respect I was taught has sustained me in my years after.

To all who have served, are serving or is supporting a member of the armed forces, thank you. :o

Actually, at the time this thread was started, I did not give any thought to military service outside the U. S. Admittedly, that was short sighted and the listing of service in military organizations outside the U. S. had become quite routine in this thread, and is most welcome.

Thanks,

I am a current member of the United States Armed Forces. Been in almost 9 years now and am a SSG. There is a MSG and another SSG in my section who also geocache. In fact the MSG got both us SSG Started.

My soldiers just got back from serving overseas, we were blessed that we had no injuries or losses. A Chemical Co turned into truck drivers.

Bump. Anyone with any more news or ideas about military geocoins?

The only activity I am aware of is Here.

I hope somebody else is workig on one as well, as this group closed itself off to, I think, 75 members who will get a limited number of coins, and seems to be intent on creating a coin with "value" instead of celebrating veterans service. I haven't kept up with what they are doing, since once it became a private collectors group instead of an open all-veterans thing I kinda lost interest.

Admittely I am a member of that group, and will buy whatever they finally come up with, but do hope that there is some interest out there in having an International All-Services All-Veterans coin that any vet anywhere can get and be proud of.

there are still 3 spots left if anyone else wants to join, in some respects im like rambler a coin out in the caches celebrating military service would be cool the group is going to make 150 LE's and 500 gc trackable which at least in my case will find there way into some caches either as travelers or FTF prizes

USAF '80-'84

Tech school keesler AFB, 304X4, Ground Radio Communicatons Equipment Repair Specialist (aint that a mouthful)

1836 EIG, Lindsey Air Station, Wiesbaden Germany '81-'84 as an installer.

Too bad it got closed down in one of those sweeping base closure deals of the 90's. That was a sweet lil place, maybe 10 city blocks right in the city, we had a Greman-American friendship fest every year. I even made it to one of them, what a party...

This is one of the few jobs in the AF where ya do get to see the world... I was TDY all the time. Spent less than 80 days "in station" in 3 1/2 years.

My favororite on duty place is a lil hole in the mountains, the European version of Cheyane Mtn. Got an Uzi stuck in my ear for stepping across a lil red line before I should have(badge exchange), glad the fella knew I was supposed to be there!

My favorite off duty place was Scotland as a whole, Edinburg in specific, especially during the Christmas-New Years holiday(again, what a party) I love that place.... gonna get back there sometime.

Other places i've been on duty:

England

Belgium

Spain

Italy

Sicily

Greece

Turkey

I did have the opportunity to get a 30 day eur-rail pass(the only leave I took while I was across the pond),and ended up goin' every where else in Western Europe.

Tnx Uncle Sam, I'd have NEVER been able to go and see all the places I had.

My only regret is that I didn't stay in, the 1st ex said, "leave the service or I'll leave you".... Boy was I stupid, I'd have retired last year...
