4-Legged Geocaching Partners

We may look unusual trecking through the woods ( she's a chihuahua!) but she loves it, probably because all the goodies are just her size!

No stranger than this Cujo and his owner Snoogans.

Love this thread! We don't always take ours with us, as we like to scope the location first. Herman (Great Dane) is great for pulling you up a hill after a long day of walking. He has so much energy he can go all day. Our little rescue Chihuahua Coco is also always up for an adventure. It's amazing how well she can keep up with her big brother.

This is a picture of Zane the Stellar Geo-Dog. He's a 5-year old Bearded Collie. This photo was taken near a cache we did in one of the Pennsylvania State Gamelands. Also in the picture is my geocaching partner (and daughter) Stellar Jr. Zane loves to go geocaching (or anywhere for car rides) and loves those long hikes in the woods. He's also a canine traveling bug and we log him in and out of caches he visits. d777e1c5-ac44-4258-ab16-9251ceecb917.jpg

Here's our new German Shorthaired Pointer. His registered name is Geoffrey Jager. He is 8 weeks old today and is already in the process of leash training. The breed is known for bird hunting so we are hoping to train him as a cache hunter.

Here's a picture of my girl Zoe, affectionately called Zoe-dog in my logs. She's a mostly German Shepherd who's almost 12 years old (she was 11 in the photo!).

She goes crazy when I put on my hiking boots! She loves caches of all sizes because it means going for a ride and going for a walk. She'll even wear her own backpack!

Our geopups are still very much pups (they're ~ 4 1/2 months old, the vet thinks). Of course, their combined weight is already around 75 pounds, with lots more growth to come if those paws are any hint! ah, the joys of big pups. They're shelter puppies, so we're not 100% certain what they are, but the yellow lab is obvious, and the shelter said their mom was a golden retriever. Plus, Luke has an almost solid purple tongue and slightly fluffy fur, so chow maybe?

They're just starting to get the hang of this caching idea, and they definitely prefer park and hike to park and grab. (they're not so good at getting into the car, out, then back in, then back ...). They've already been to their first event cache, which they loved (ok, they were a bit more into the being petted and chasing squirrels than chatting about geocaching, but they tried). Here they are finding a cache and helping drop off a TB.

If anyone find themselves in North East Ohio with their geopup make sure you check out "Those who cache unseen beside us". It is a memorial cache placed by Alpha Wolf that honors our most loyal caching partners that have passed on. My geopup, Tug aka The white tornado (Named for his caching style) is honored on that page.

Well, I hate to admit it, but my dog, Chevy, is a complete weenie. He hates to ride in the car, for one (he will actually try to run away and hide if he knows that you are going for a drive). He refuses to look out the window, and will actually bury his head in your armpit to avoid seeing things. Have you ever heard of a dog doing that?

When we finally get to the trail, he does okay, but gets freaked out if we encounter people or other dogs. Also, being a miniature dachshund, he has to work pretty hard to keep up if the cache requires any sort of a hike. He gets cold pretty easily and starts shivering, and whenever I sit down to sign the logbook, he jumps into my lap and wants to be held.

So, I guess that you could say that he's not exactly the ideal caching partner. But you know what? I still love him to death and look forward to taking him geocaching with me whenever I can! I have even set him up with his own profile. I have other pictures of him here in case anyone is interested.

My oh my, this can't be the same dog that I try to keep up with on 14 mile hikes?

Flo can't believe her luck with me taking up caching, she is having so many lovely walks now in really different places, walking much further than we would have done without the goal. Flo says ta!

I wanted to upload an image to go with this but couldn't see how. I know this now identifies me as a retard but hey! can anyone offer an idoits guide? It is worth it, Flo is a great looking creature!

Ok, but this will be the non-techie version of it.

The picture has to be somewhere on the internet already (use a cache log if need be!)

Then, in your post, click on the "tree" (it looks like a postage stamp with a tree in it - third from the right). You'll have to copy and paste in the link from your picture. (if you put it in a cache log, open another window, go to that cache log, and click on the picture. This will open a webpage of just that picture. Copy the url (http://.....) and paste it into the box that opens when you click on the tree.

edit: feel free to pm me if this doesn't make sense.

Here are our dogs. Casey and Koati are retired Search and Rescue dogs who love to geocache. They're also pretty good at finding most caches. Tucker, the Rat Terrier, is our son's dog and he, too, enjoys caching with us.

We have two geocaching dogs.

BrittSnaqu002.jpg

This is Britt our Lab mix. She lives for camping and geocaching. They are her favorite things in live. She especially loves the wooded areas because she can be free of her leash.

Rebel3.jpg

This is Rebel. He weighs 5.2 pounds. He also loves to go but does not like to walk. He prefers to ride in his little puppy purse.

Mistypatio.jpg

Leo02.jpg

We have three others that love to camp, but don't go geocaching with us. They do sometimes ride along in the car. It's tooo hard to take more than the two and accomplish any successful searches.

This is a fun topic. I hope people continue to post pics of their caching pups.

Best wishes.

Bilbo is our geo-dog. He is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and just loves hittin’ the trails. His only limitation is his short legs, but they don’t slow him down much. He’s still young, 4 years old so he still gets pretty excited when he see any wildlife in the woods. We were hikin’ to one cache last fall and came across a flock of wild turkeys, wow was it funny! It started out with him running into the group of turkeys but quickly turned into him being chased by the bigger toms back down the trial. I was laughing so hard I didn’t have time to get out my camera before the turkeys saw me and beat a hasty retreat back into the woods to rejoin the group. Not sure if Bilbo learned his lesson but he stayed at my feet for the next mile or so down the trail. Now if I can just find a doggy vest with pockets so he can carry some of my geo-stuff…..

Bilbo gettin' a drink

Bilbo soakin' his feet
