I'm so fantastically bored at work today. Days this boring are rare. Sooo... here's what I spent my time doing.

Write your own geocaching song.

----------------------------

Sung to the tune Jeremy by Pearl Jam

At home

Loading waypoints

Of caching spots

With his laptop

Caching to be done

Arm raised to receive

Said "they, need a portal"

Said he wanted to list some caches

And the coordinates of exactly where

King Jeremy the Admin's

Vision unfulred

Jeremy's website, is Geocaching

Jeremy's website, is Geocaching

Clearly I remember

Caching with the boy

Always left a Hotwheels truck

The dollar store's where he'd buy them

Cached all day and did his best

How could I forget

Then he hid his very first cache

Marked the coordinates

Of the ammo box

He hid that day

That day in the dirt

The memory was in suspension

He knew this was something, he wanted to share

King Jeremy the Admin's

Vision unfulred

Jeremy's website, is Geocaching

Jeremy's website, is Geocaching

Try to log this

Try to cache this

With the right coords

Jeremy's website, is Geocaching

Well this isn't my song but one that a MiGO member put together for us. Its very cool and Banjo Jim did one heck of a job singing it while playing his banjo at our winter social event.

Cache on the Bayou

by RetroJohn and Banjo-Jim to the tune of Hank Williams’ “Jambalai”

1. Good bye, Sue; good bye, Joe, MiGO, MiGO;

Me gotta go hide the cache by the bayou.

Get a fix, get a lock on the satellites-o:

Son of a gun, they’ll never find Cache on the Bayou!

Chorus: Well, GPS and Geocache and ammo boxes;

Full of stuff, full of junk hid in the rockses.

Hide it high, hide it low, MiGO, MiGO;

Son of a gun, they’ll never find Cache on the Bayou!

2. Tonka toys, Barbie dolls and lots of key chains;

Some old rings and lots of things no one wantses;

A ping pong gun, a Pokemon and a golf ball:

Son of a gun, who’d want to find Cache on the Bayou?

3. Pseudonyms like Keystone Two and Evileye-O;

ABX Guy, Zuckerruebensirrup and a-prohpet-Dino;

TSD team TSA at M I G O

Son of a gun, they’ll never find Cache on the Bayou!

4. Rusty, Libby, Cache Campers Cows and Frito-

Feet, U M C, Gvnagei and Bosco.

Doc Ott, Eight Legs, Rosemont Team and ol' Torgo;

Son of a gun, they’ll never find Cache on the Bayou!

5. Northern Lights, Trippy, Victory Mike and Trashcan;

Malamute Kid, Riddler, Sam and Keep on Cachin'.

RetroJohn, Braveheart, too, and One Angel:

Son of a gun, they’ll never find Cache on the Bayou!

Sung to the tune of Searchin' by The Coasters

Well now if I have to swim a river, you know I will,

And if I have to climb a mountain you know I will.

And if it's hiding up on a blueberry hill,

I'm gonna find it, child, you know I will.

Cause I've been searching, oh yeah, searching,

My goodness, searching every which a-way. Yeah. Yeah.

But I'm like the Northwest Mountie,

You know I'll bring it in some day. Gonna find it.

Well Sherlock Holmes, Sam Spade got nothing, child, on me.

Sergeant Friday, charlie Chan, and Boston Blackie.

No matter where it's hiding, it's gonna hear me

Cause I'm gonna walk right down that street,

Like Bulldog Drummond because I've been searching,

Oh Lord, searching, mmmm child, searching every which a-way. Yeah. Yeah.

You know I'll bring it in some day. Gonna find it.

Oh, wait....I didn't write that one. The Coasters did. Oopsies!

Sung to the tune of Heart of Gold by Neil Young

I look high

I look low

I've been searching for a micro cache

Those dadgum hints. They do not help.

They keep me searching for a micro cache

And it's getting old.

Keeps me searching for a micro cache

And it's getting old.

I've been to Schaumburg

I've been to Niles

I crossed a river for a micro cache.

Got Pocket Querys Got a compass.

But I keep searching for that dadgum micro cache

And it's getting old

I just may switch to locationaless caches

coz this is getting old

Allow me to share with you these thoughts of Chris Squire, lead bassist/vocalist of YES.

"Hold Out Your Hand"

You can feel it coming with the morning light

And you know the feelings, gonna make you feel

Alright

Almost close enough to,

Hold out your hand

Span the distance,

Store resistance,

To attack is to retreat

All you've got to do is

Hold out your hand

For the treasures of the Universe are lying at your feet.

You can hide it, lose it, but it's always found.

You can laugh it off, but it always comes,

Back on you, so true.

True is true enough to

Hold out your hand.

Forward motion

Life promotion

To reverse is to repeat

All you've got to do is

Hold out your hand

For the treasures of the Universe are lying at your feet.

Hold out your hand

Span the distance

Store resistance

To attack is to retreat.

Almost close enough to

Hold out your hand

For the treasures of the Universe are lying at your feet.

To the tune "Sharp Dressed Man" - by ZZ Top

Sharp Dressed Can

GPS, hiking shoes

and you don't know where I am goin' to.

Ammo can, good hide,

I don't need a reason why.

They come runnin' just as fast as they can

coz everyone's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed can.

Log book, cache things,

I ain't missin' a single thing.

Coordinates, toys within,

when I hide out I'm gonna do you in.

They come runnin' just as fast as they can

coz everyone's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed can.

Black cloak, Black hat,

Cloak & Dagger knows where I'm at.

Lookin here, lookin there,

lookin' around, everywhere.

They come runnin' just as fast as they can

coz everyone's grazy 'bout a sharp dressed can.

To the tune of "Bad to the Bone" by George Thorogood:

On the day I was hidden,

The cachers all gathered 'round,

And they gazed in wide wonder,

At the joy they had found.

The head admin spoke up

And he said leave this one alone

He could tell right away

That it was bad to the bone

Bad to the bone

Bad to the bone

B-B-B-B-Bad to the bone

B-B-B-B-Bad B-B-B-B-Bad

Bad to the bone

I broke a thousand hearts

Before I was found,

I'll break a thousand more Baby

Before I go down.

I wanna be your's pretty baby

Your's and your's alone

I'm here to tell ya honey

That I'm bad to the bone

Bad to the bone

B-B-B-Bad B-B-B-Bad B-B-B-Bad

Bad to the bone

I make a good cacher beg

I'll make a good cacher think

I'll make an old cacher cuss

And make a young cacher blink

I wanna be your's pretty baby

Your's and your's alone

I'm here to tell you cachers

That I'm bad to the bone

B-B-B-B-Bad B-B-B-B-Bad

B-B-B-B-Bad Bad to the bone

And when you search these hills,

Every step could be a "hide"

Every cacher I meet

They all stay satisfied

I wanna tell ya little geo

Well Ya see I hide my own

I'm here to tell ya cacher

That I'm bad to the bone

Bad to the bone B-B-B-B-Bad B-B-B-Bad

B-B-B-Bad Bad to the bone

The devil went down to Georgia

He was looking for a can to find

He was ready to squeal, and make a deal

To get him out of that bind

When he came across this young man

Had a Legend and playing it hot

And the devil jumped up on a hickory stump

And said, "Boy, let me tell you what"

I guess you didn't know it

But I'm a geocacher too

And if you'd care to take a dare

I'll make a bet with you

Now you read a pretty good Legend boy,

But give the devil his due

I bet a Garmin of gold against your soul

Cause I think I'm better than you

The boy said "My name's Johnny

And it might be a sin

But I'll take your bet, you're gonna regret

Cause I'm the best that's ever been"

Johnny charge those batteries,

And work that Legend hard

Cause hell's broke loose in Georgia

And the devil deals the cards

And if you win

You get this shiny Garmin made of gold

But if you lose, the devil gets your soul

The devil grabbed his GPS

And he said "I'll start this game"

And fire flew from his fingertips as his Maggie showed the way

As he made his way across that screen

It made an awful sound

Then a band of demons joined in

Told him "geo" just means ground

When the devil finished Johnny said.

"Well you're pretty good old son

But sit down in that chair right there

And let me show you how it's done."

Cache is on the mountain, run boy run

Devil’s on the run with a Magellan

Cacher in the mud now, stubbin’ his toe

It’s hidden in the stump boy, don’t you know?

The devil bowed his head

Because he knew that he'd been beat

And he laid that golden Garmin

On the ground at Johnny's feet

Johnny said "Devil just come on back

If you ever want to try again

Cause I told you once, you son of a *****

I'm the best that's ever been" he played

Cache is on the mountain, run boy run

Devil’s on the run with a Magellan

Cacher in the mud now, stubbin’ his toe

It’s hidden in the stump boy, don’t you know?

OK, speaking of insomniacs, I woke up way too early this morning and decided to peek at the forums. It's too early to write any songs, but I thought I'd Markwell you to The Geocaching Christmas Carols written last year. Maybe later I'll think one up but I pretty much drained the brain for songs last year. Now, I'm going back to bed.

Cache you later,

Planet

So many caches, so little time.

To the 80's song - Obsession by Animotion:

Geocaching is my obsession

I cannot sleep

I want it in my possession

Opened at my feet

There's no log book

Only McDonald's Toys

But hey, I will not accept defeat

I will find it

Yes, I will find it

I'll use my GPS and I will find it

I use a Garmin

An eTrex Legend

I will find the cache and log - it - in

Chorus:

It's my obsession

Yes my obsession

I am completely obsessed

With my G - P - S

It's my obsession

Yes my obsession

I am completely obsessed

With my G - P - S

I use you, I use you

in the day and night

I use you, I use you

By sun or back lit light

I got caught

They want me to leave

I hide

And wait - until them I cannot see

I'm back home again

I download more coordinates

But I see danger

a 5/5 - do I dare

I take a chance

decide to take a chance

Into the woods I go

No difficulty or terrain can ev-er stop me

Chorus:

It's my obsession

Yes my obsession

I am completely obsessed

With my G - P - S

It's my obsession

Yes my obsession

I am completely obsessed

With my G - P - S

My geocaching has turned to madness

All my time is spent

Finding those darn caches

My need to possess them

Has consumed my soul

My life is trembling

I have no control

I will find it

Yes, I will find it

I'll use my GPS and I will find it

I use a Garmin

An eTrex Legend

I will find the cache and log - it - in

Chorus:

It's my obsession

Yes my obsession

I am completely obsessed

With my G - P - S

It's my obsession

Yes my obsession

I am completely obsessed

With my G - P - S

P.S. This is the work of 6:30 a.m. this morning.

"Too Much Time On My Hands"

Styx

Yeah, here I am sitting on this bar stool,

talking like a dadgum fool

Got the twelve o'clock news blues

And I've given up hope for the

afternoon soaps

And a bottle of cold brew

Is it any wonder I'm not crazy

Is it any wonder I'm sane at all

Well I'm so tired of losing

I've got nothing to do and all day

to do it

Well I'd go out cruising, but I've no place

to go and all night to get there

Is it any wonder I'm not a criminal

Is it any wonder I'm not in jail

Is it any wonder I've got too much

time on my hands

It's ticking away with my sanity

I've got too much time on my hands

It's hard to believe such a calamity

I've got too much time on my hands

and it's ticking away, ticking away

from me

(Too much time on my hands)

It's tick tick tick tick ticking away

(Too much time on my hands)

And I don't know what to do with myself

(Too much time on my hands)

(Too much time on my hands)

(Too much time on my hands)

(Too much time on my hands)

Now I'm a jet fuel genius

I can solve the world's problems

without even trying

I've got dozens of friends, and the fun

never ends

That is as long as I'm buying

Is it any wonder I'm not the President

Is it any wonder I'm null and void

Is it any wonder I've got too much

time on my hands

It's ticking away with my sanity

I've got too much time on my hands

It's hard to believe such a calamity

I've got too much time on my hands

and it's ticking away, ticking away

from me

(Too much time on my hands)

Ticky tick tick tick tick ticking away

(Too much time on my hands)

And I don't know what to do with myself

(Too much time on my hands)

Umm mmm...

(Too much time on my hands)

Tick tick tick ticking away

(Too much time on my hands)

Umm mmm...

(Too much time on my hands)

Too much time on my hands

Too much time on my

Clearly the heat got to my head today. I apologize in advance for this.

sung to the tune of Gilligan's Island theme song (now stuck in your head for days)

Just sit right back and you’ll hear a tale,

A tale of a caching trip

That started from this website,

With an etrex on my hip.

Desert Viking was a thinking girl

Tsegi Mike tough and sure,

Nine caches they set out to find

In a three hour tour.

A three hour tour

The weather started getting hot,

The cheap batteries died.

If not for the convenience of a Walgreen’s,

No caches they would find

No caches they would find.

The caches abound in the shrubs of these

Common city parks

With Freestone Lake, Hummingbird,

Roadrunners’Revenge Net Serve,

Put Me In Coach, Hidden Meadows Around the Bend,

Here in my city’s parks!

So this is the tale of our caching trip,

We’re out for a long, long time

We’ll have to make a trade of things,

And not forget to sign.

Desert Viking and Tsegi Mike

Will do their very best,

To find the other caches,

Out in the heated west.

No phone! No maps! No extra hints!

Not a single luxury,

Like a bunch of new tourists, we’re as lost as can be.

So join us here each week my friends,

You're sure to get a smile,

From two desert geocachers,

On geocaching dot com.

icon_razz.gifWell here goes...

sung to the tune of Jimmy Buffetts changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes"sorry Jimmy"

I took off for a weekend last month

Just to try and find the right spot.

Almost gave up, went back to my pick-up,

it was just too doggone hot.

I didn't sit in my Dodge for too long,

I was itching from all the bug bites.

I jumped out yelling, threw down my magellan,

Caching is no good at nights.

It's those changes in latitudes,

changes in attitudes nothing remains quite the same.

With all the caches, and all of the rashes,

If we couldn't laugh, we would all go insane.

Reading my hints in the midst of a forest,

Reminds me of the places I've been

Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure

Makes me want to go find them again.

If my GPS should die tomorrow,

I could somehow adjust to the fall

I'll use a compass, try not to trespass

Won't stop 'till I find 'em all

Chorus:

These changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes

Nothing remains quite the same

Through all of the scratches, and all of the brair patches,

If we couldn't laugh we would all go insane

I think about caching, while I'm out driving

I wish I could jump off the main road.

So many treasures, so little pleasures

God I wish I was caching again

Oh, yesterday's over my shoulder

So I can't look back for too long

There's just too much to find, to sit here and whine,

So now I'll will end this dumb song.

With these changes in latitudes, changes in attitudes

Nothing remains quite the same

With all of the caches, and all of the rashes,

If I couldn't laugh I just would go insane

If we couldn't laugh we just would go insane

If we weren't all caching we would go insane.

Inspired by Icehouse and too much time! icon_rolleyes.gif

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a cache.
