Adult Geocaching?

Let me remind you that themes you don't agree with are a lot different than caches that could land the cache owner or the finders in front of a judge, among other things.

That's what I meant earlier by legal issues. At the very least the public at large would look to GC.com for an explanation about something they have no control over other than posting guidelines.

On a side note, I don't like finding Chick publications in caches, but I won't try to compare them to porn, however I might personally feel about them. I don't think they're appropriate swag to leave in a cache, but when I find them I ignore them. If somebody else wants them, they can have them.

There are plenty of other controversial themes out there that could come under the same mind set.

YOu mean like all the film canisters hidden at the base of lampposts in shopping mall parking lots?

Hardly.

Caches put out by the Boy Scouts can cause a firestorm here in the forums because of their beliefs.

Look, what I'm saying is just because you don't agree with a theme doesn't mean you can go around stealing them. Next thing you know caches with McToys are being stolen because someone has some beef with McDonalds. What about folks who don't like organized religion, they could use the same mind set to steal caches placed by the Sunday school class.

Okay, so now it's just themes that you don't agree with (i.e. adult caches) that you shouldn't steal. Apparently all other (non-theme) caches are up for grabs.

Thanks for the clarification.

On Topic: If I find items in caches that are not appropriate I remove them. This has included expired coupons, cigarettes, feminine products, condoms, food, cologne, and A JAR OF HONEY???? to name a few. I would hope someone would do the same for one of my caches.

Off Topic: Enough CR bashing. I would have removed that cache too. It had been archived by a reviewer which asked for it to be removed as it was placed in a hole DRILLEd into a utility pole from what I gather. It was therefore no longer a cache but geolitter that the owner wouldn't or hadn't removed.

Is this thread about stealing caches? :D:D:D

An "adult" cache that has crossed my mind would be to place a bottle of beer say somewhere up in the mountains where it would be a little difficult to get. Then each cacher that searches for that cache would take the beer and leave a different brand for the next cacher. Of course, this would be explained in detail on the geocache page and if people were to find this offensive, they could just stay home.

------------------
Echosgold
www.Outdoor-Dog.com -Gear for Active Dogs!
www.Outdoor-Dog.com/Geocache -Echosgold Geocache

Leave a bandycam for pics of the bitter beer face when they drink it. :D

This is sounding like the old party gag where a large covered box marked "For Men Only" sits in a corner. Invariably ever female in the room will sneak a peek at whats in the box. Typical items in the box may include a mens razor and shaving cream, after shave, mustache cup... and so on.

I have seen a few caches that are not appropriate for children because of location and terrain. But I often take my younger son geocaching and he complains about bushwhacking.

I will not allow an "adult" cache (as in sexually explicit) on the geocaching.com web site. People are certainly welcome to create their own geocaching site with an adult (sexually explicit) theme.

I will hold my position on this. The idea of a cache of this sort out in the wild with even the slightest chance that a child could accidentally find it really grates my sense of morality. I'd rather not be a part of it.

There's already a stigma against geocaching as geotrash. There's no reason to give someone another reason to ban it.

Jeremy

Doesn't this mean it's a cache for adults?

It just means it's not a good idea for kids. For example a rough steep slope that adults can climb but kids would have a hard time with. Or industrial slag zones with lots of sharp metal, broken glass etc.

That said I have no problem whatsoever with adult caches located where kids don't have access. The locations that allow this are rare though. Translated if the cache complies with local laws, I don't care.

Edit: Answered a 2006 Post. Whoops.

Being a mature adult is knowing how to put a cap on your baser instincts, not parading them around in public.

I vote this quote of the week! (Even if that week was three years ago!) Short, sweet, and accurate. Thank you.

On the subject of caches, although they could be "adult" without sexual content, I'd rather not fracture geocaching into any more subsets.

Edited to address age of cache!

Not necessarily.

I see that as more based on the terrain or accessibility to the cache. There are simply some areas where you may not want to take small children.

For example, I seem to recall someone having a cache hidden in a swamp. An adult would have a difficult time getting to the cache, so I don't believe you would want to take a child there.

I would never put anything in a cache that a parent would not want their child to see such as a pornographic nature. I don't want to see it in a cache either, however I use the not for children attribute usually when it is close to a busy road. That road may not always be busy and an adult using caution should be fine but I would be horrified if little Johnny ran out in the street and got smucked by a semi during the find. This should be a family friendly game and any inappropriate material should be removed. I hope that so called ADULT caches never become a part of it. If someone wants them so bad I at least hope they are published on another site.

Are these the same adults who are supposed to supervise minors on the forums?

We're supposed to supervise the minors here? I thought the reason you were supposed to be 18 or supervised by an adult was so that you could protect yourself or the adults in your own personal realm of human companionship could protect you.

Well kind of. But not really. I really wanted to bump this topic but couldn't think of anything, so I just wrote the first thing about adults and supervision I could think of.

This is a family friendly activity, so adult caches have no place here. But while this may be family friendly, I'm not responsible for making sure someone else's kids are behaving themselves or not getting hurt.

Apparently a majority think that when someone says adult they mean sexual effectively making the phrasing Adult Cache vulgar, even if that is not so.

Responsible Grownups Cache (that felt immature and stupid just thinking it) anyone? Listed as a PMOC.

Knives, water proof matches, non lubricated latex condoms (as a survival tool they are good for more than protection from STDs) flint & steel, etc etc.

Okay a few things, knives are not good even for adults because you can reach in and cut yourself. Swiss army knives are MUCH better idea. (I'm never without one). Matches are a good idea, however no lighters, those things can break and get lighter fluid everywhere. Condoms... Err, no. How about not using a condom you found in a box in the woods?
