Do you hide caches with others? If so, would you like to share the cache with their account?

Recently, I have collaborated on a few cache placements with another local cacher. Each time, it is a literal coin toss to see who will use their account to list the cache.

 

If caches were able to be shared between user accounts, both (all) of the hiders would get the email notifications for the cache. They would both be able to edit it if necessary. They would both recieve credit for placing the cache. They would both be able to view the audit log of shared MOC's. The list goes on.

Event caches in particular are often the work of several cachers, who all deserve credit for "throwing the party".

 

How many of you would like to be able to share a cache with other cacher's accounts?

That's a great idea. I think it would be a tremendous improvement. I've got a few caches that I could implement that feature with. Especially the cache exchange I'm about to do with Team Raider in Australia. Can anyone, Jeremy or one of the admins, give us an idea of the amount of work it would take to make that happen. Doesn't seem like a huge undertaking, but then again I'm not a programmer.

It has been requested countless times, but TPTB never seem to respond to the requests. A simple "no way" would be better than no response at all. RM

Yes, it has. But it has been proven that if you beg for stats enough, you'll get the totals back on your profile. If we really want the ability to share caches, we need to passionately state our case. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Yes I hide caches with others, but it is more of a Lennon/Mcartney kind of thing. In the end we all know which ones John wrote and which ones Paul wrote. I know what you mean though. I don't toss a coin, I just keep the cache under my name and give the other cacher credit in the 'BY' field.

 

The other cacher can just put a watch list on the 'shared cache'.

 

If your suggestion can be implimented it sounds like it could be cool.

I think this is a no-brainer. One of those things everyone asks 'Why hasn't this been implemented yet?'

My wife and I both geocache, so the caches we own are researched, created, and placed as co-owners. Unfortunately, only one of us receive credit for the cache... something I thought that needed to be amended.

 

In reporting a new cache, I understand the ability to modify the "Who placed the cache?" field, but how many owners put the time and effort into creating and stocking a cache only to hand it off to someone else to hide? If it even happens, I'd imagine the numbers are statistically insignificant.

 

If a group of individuals with accounts are listed as being associated with the cache, I'd expect that they are all individually liable to be contacted should there be an issue with the cache or its contents.

 

As such, I'd also expect that the listed individuals have that responsibility for the cache reflected on the individual's stats page.

Perfect timing!

I recently hid a cache with someone else.

I supplied the cache container. I purchased most (if not all) the cache contents, I picked the spots for the various stages (it's a multi), and I chose the final hiding spot. The other person created the cache page.

Since it was close to the other person's house, it seemed best that since it could only be assigned to one account, it should be theirs, acknowledging me as co-hider in the "hidden by" field.

The person has since removed all references to me from the cache page.

It's not about the numbers, but it sure would have been nice to get some sort of credit (or blame, if it was a poor cache) for my efforts.

The events I host simply would not be possible without the generous help of many cachers. I think it's only right that they should get a smiley face for owning the event: they put in as much work as I do (and sometimes more!)
