Complaint Dept!!

This site is way too over-moderated. Everyone is upset about the thread lockings, so the admins lock more threads. They aren't giving anyone a chance to get it out of their system.

There were a few of us (yes, myself included) that were bickering on Monday. The admins swooped in to save the day. They ended up giving themselves a bunch of extra work by trying to stay on top of curbing the discussion. Now they have to hang around the forums all day to make sure nothing goes of-topic. What a waste of time! The big reason we were all in the forums that day was that the geocaching part of the site was slow. It's been slow for awhile now. There have been promised upgrades (can you say MAP SERVER?) that have passed deadline after deadline. Notice how the admins haven't given us updates on it anymore?

My point is this, several of us have been frustrated with the progress of these upgrades. We needed a place to vent. Since the vent was closed, the pressure built up and exploded onto several other topics, new and old. If the pressure would have been allowed to be released all at once, it would have been over with already. 5 days later, it is still there fueled by some stong feelings against certain admins. Most topics here relate to Geocaching, but we don't have one-track minds. We like discussing other things with our friends (Yes, even though we bicker, the other members are like friends). If you need examples of threads that don't relate to Geocaching, I can help point some out.

Yeah, me too. What a bunch of losers.

On the other hand, they don't have to satisfy themselves with a choice between a square avatar or an ugly white space.

I'm confused.

If we go off-topic, the thread gets locked.

If we start a new topic, it gets locked.

Can it be that we have discussed every possible thing relating to Geocaching (or Vespa Scooters) and there can be no more new posts?

I guess we need to use the search feature and drag up old threads. That way we can spend more time searching instead of getting questions answered in a timely manner. (Search time takes away caching time, too y'know)

This topic was DELETED from the board, but this similar thread was replied to by Jeremy and locked.

Now I agree that questions for a specific member should be handled through email, as Jeremy said. Nothing wrong with that.

The point is that it is really difficult to post ANY new message with the Gestapo constantly locking threads. Jeremy has said (I'm paraphrasing here) that all posts are to relate directly to Geocaching and nothing else.

Funny thing, when I'm at work I talk about work, Geocaching, my truck repairs, my yard/house, my kids, and a lot of other things, including Vespa Scooters. When I'm here I want to do the same thing.

I did not call anyone an idiot. I also did not start a new thread, LQQKING did that. After I replied to it, it was deleted. This is the complaint thread, I thought it was the appropriate ON-TOPIC post for complaints. Silly me, I should have used the Abject Silliness post to reply to something that ludicrous.

Whoa, Sax man, take a deep breath.

Firstly, I didn't say that *you* called anyone anything.

It was getting out of control -- can you not see that? It was chaos man -- go back and take a look at the closed threads that you're refering to -- they were confrontational in nearly every respect. What was Jeremy supposed to do -- let people post nasty insulting comments about himself, the admins, and everything about the way the site is run? Would you let something like that happen on *your* forums?

Say what you want, but say with some civility. Maybe the answers you get will be equally civil.

And yes, this thread is for complaining, so go ahead and complain some more if you wish. When you get tired of that, you might want to drop in over at Pat's place if you want to yak with some friends about the concerns that you have (or anything else for that matter).

It's just a game. And it's supposed to be fun.

Have fun.

Ok, now lets be civil. J5 and Sax yall need to calm down. I never get out of hand and rant on the forums. icon_wink.gif This is getting out of control. Wow, must of missed some good stuff on here...ummmm on second thought I didn't! I had fun yesterday at the cache event. Racked up some finds and even a benchmark. Met some great people (had to explain myself to them...lol icon_wink.gif). You will be surprised how many people actually read the forums without posting! I must say that Geocachers are an awesome breed of people.

Ok now to the complaint: I want to complain that there isn't a cache event more often that I can drive to in a short period of time (Drove 2-3 hours for the one yesterday). There should be at least one every weekend here...lol

Must complain..... got this as an email response to a cache that i looked for and did not find:

quote:
This was out firs stash and neither of us own a GPS receiver. My boyfriend got the coordinates off Topomap. The cache is in a tree along the west wall in the front part of the park.

Guess what? That park if FULL of trees (most of which i already searched)! The coords that are given on the page take me to a cornfield two roads away from the park that the cache is named for. I know I should just laugh this off...but c'mon really now...what thought was put into this? Grrrrr, I will now return to my normally scheduled non-complaining.

Newbies lack of patience. They pose questions and expect an answer immediately. If they don't get it within two minutes, they either ***** about the lack of an answer or they post in another forum.... and I'm not talking about the dups in the forums.

Cheers!

I am getting dangerously close to exceeding my posts compared to my finds, so this could be my last post for a while. But...

I want to complain about what happens when I try to download a LOC file. More than half the time, I get the stupid "Downloading GPX/LOC files" page, which says "You have already read and accepted the license agreement."

So why am I seeing this page instead of receiving the LOC file??? Argh! This is highly frustrational! Many times, I just give up and type in the coords by hand.

Since this is my last post, I'll make it a double. The eBook format doesn't work on my Palm. MobiPocket reboots my Palm, making me reset the dang thing. Worse than useless. icon_frown.gif

ClayJar Watcher is super cool, though, so I'll balance my second complaint with some optimism. icon_smile.gif

icon_biggrin.gifSorry, I actually read some of the earlier posts and there was some mention of working smarter not harder. But I wouldn't expect anyone from Moscow on the Willamette to actually READ any of the forums.... icon_razz.gif Cracking wise from the socialist capital of Oregon? And it's not armpit odor! According to the folks up here it's the smell of MONEY.

You're so right! Let's open a bunch of complaint threads. And then folks can complain that there are too many complaint threads. I'm going to stop complaining and see if I can find a job or a cache, whichever looks more interesting. (Actually in my quest for geocaching knowledge/info I thought reading a complaint thread would be of value. So, I was wrong.....sue me!)

I don't strictly fit in here in Little Beirut. I don't like coffe OR beer, for starters....

I would like to complain that no one has posted "NORM!!!," after any of my 1st posts of the day on the Abject Silliness thread.

I have been waiting for the opportunity to say to Woody (BrianSnat) after he asks how the world is treating me:

"It's a dog eat dog world and I'm wearing milkbone underwear."

Dang! I never get to have any fun. icon_confused.gif

You sure got that one right and then that is after you've already made the poor sucker, I mean callers go through sixteen choices on the phone system... and we have to say the words 'customer interaction' in the middle of our spiel, the joke around the office is 'intercourse' and trust me, it's tough to not switch the words LOL.
