Guest puma
Is there a web site that will translates NAD 27 into WGS 84? Quote Link to comment
Guest Krepism
This is what is used on the geocache web site. I use it and it works just fine. I dont know of any programs for the pc so its a bit of a pain if you dont have access to the internet. I have been looking for something for the palm, so if anyone has one, could you please pass it on. http://www.jeeep.com/details/coord/ Quote Link to comment
Guest BigFig
GS84 conversion. Also have UTM to Lat/Lon and a bunch of other free software. http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/PC_PROD/pc_prod.shtml Quote Link to comment
Guest BigFig
They also have the interactive web versions of the software - called the Geodetic Tool Kit. This site is hosted by the NGS and is a worthwhile visit for all sorts of GPS related information. http://www.ngs.noaa.gov/TOOLS/ Quote Link to comment
Guest jeremy
There are whole careers doing this sort of thing, so you may be overwhelmed if you check it out. I'm learning, but slowly! Jeremy Quote Link to comment
Guest BigFig
Jeremy is right! This stuff gets highly technical (not that I understand it). Be sure to check out the section on how to do laplace transformations to correct for datum irregularities One reason I got a GPS is I'm a techie and interested in navigation in general and cartography in particular. But the great thing about the "technical" stuff is that you don't need it for geocaching - most of the technical stuff revolves around taking the GPS "normal" (sans SA) accuracy of about 15 meters down to five or so mm. That's right - 5 mm. That's with them high dollar government toys .... Quote Link to comment

Guest Big Dog
Gentleman, Let your GPS unit do it for you. Set your GPS to WGS 84, enter the numbers. Reset your GPS to NAD27 or what ever datum your map is. Thats all there is to it. Quote Link to comment
