Legal Issues in National Parks

Aside from any possible legal issues, it's just plain inconsiderate to hide a cache in a forest or park without letting the local officals know what's going on. I spoke with the district ranger of my area this morining on the phone and he didn't know what geocaching was - can you imagine how he would have felt if he found out about it by reading a newspaper or outback magazine?? Professional land managers like forest rangers and park supervisors have a whole range of valid concerns ranging from drug smuggling to protection of archelogical sites. Let's not add to their headaches by sneaking around - 'cos they are going to find out anyway.
