+CCrew Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 What's the best way to handle these? Notify the owner? Notify the Admins? Just hope the owner does the right thing? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cachelog_details.asp?start=&L=1873508&ID=290694&decrypt= Just wondering the "right" thing to do. Actually drew the attention of the local constabulatory doing this one today. Quote
+Og's outfit Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 Hmmm.....Maybe you get bragging rights for LTF! (last to find) Og Quote
+briansnat Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 Contact the owner to find out if they have permission. Some people do have it. If they don't have permission and refuse to move it, then contact this website, or use the "archive this cache" button on the cache page. "Give a man a fish, he'll eat for a day. Ok, but if they do indeed have permission, how does that permission then apply to people hunting the cache? Seemed to rather rile the cop today, fortunately we were in the car pulling back out on the street, rather than parked and out of the car . No amount of "permission" that the cache owner has is easily verified. "Sure officer, the guy that put the box here has permission, I don't know his name, and I don't know his number, and you can email him at this website before pressing charges" doesn't work in most cases I think... Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side Quote

Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side When you print out a cache page, you get this: "You assume all risks involved seeking a cache. By using this printout you agree to the disclaimer posted at http://www.geocaching.com/disclaimer.asp" Maybe, you could email the owner of the cache, ask him to ask the property owner to change the sign to: "No Tresspassing except Geocachers" ==============="If it feels good...do it"================ **(the other 9 out of 10 voices in my head say: "Don't do it.")** . +Polgara Posted August 13, 2003 Posted August 13, 2003 I was 2nd finder to that cache, its only 90 feet from the car, so i made a run for it, and it was easy to find. "The more I study nature, the more I am amazed at the Creator." - Louis Pasteur Quote

I saw one at the Trussum Pond cache in March and one at the Cypress Point cache. It was really cool, it was a water snake and he was swimming! 2 Days ago at the RLG2 cache i saw 2 skins, friend of mine said they were probably from the same snake... glad i didn't see it, BIG snake! The ironic thing is, tall this hiking with geocaching and the the biggest snake I've seen yet was in my own backyard! +gpsfun Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 The person placing the cache has been requested to make arrangements for its removal, and the cache page has been archived. Quote

+flask Posted August 14, 2003 Posted August 14, 2003 i have caches on private property... they have permission, but hunters still get nervous and assume they're trespassing, despite indicators of permission such as "the landowner prefers that you..." and "if you see the landowner, be friendly. you're expected." -====)) -)))))))))))) presta schrader Quote

(Obviously, the "you have permission" thing wasn't in the description when we hunted for it.) Quote
